summary :

Sasahara has just returned to the faculty and like any self-respecting student, he goes around the student clubs. On the way, he will discover the Club of studies of modern visual art, alias Genshiken. He is rather introverted, and he finds people who share the same passion with him: anime and everything related to the otaku culture. Meanwhile, Saki, a "normal" girl falls madly in love with Kosaka. Souci, Kosaka, despite his appearance as a handsome boy, is without the most otaku character of the Genshiken. And she who is totally profane in this field, besides not at all interested in this world, she is going to have a hard time accepting the people of this club. But in love with Kosaka, she is determined not to let go so easily and will try to discover this curious world otaku. And she's going to have a lot to do between the fantastic president of the association Madarame, the amateur girls of Yaoï, the cosplay developers, the otaku fan of war ... Saki will have to fight to accept this kind of thing. Sasahara, he, will finally be able to assume his passion but he will also have to learn to win more.

Comment :

Genshiken is an otaku anime made by otakus. It tells the story of a band at the university who find themselves in a club. Their stories and activities (of otakus) are followed. It is packed with rather pointed references and yet it is not a hermetic second. That they are all endearing! One quickly becomes acros and each of the characters awakens a part of the otaku that sleeps in each.

But Genshiken's key is that there is something socio-cultural in this anime. We really see the occupations and the disappointments of the people who support the industry that is enjoyed in Europe. This is all the more true at the end of the series, when all are looking for jobs.

Technically, and although it is not the interest of the series, the first season fails badly. The animation and chara design are rather cheap. Despite everything, the game of doublers makes the atmosphere that there can be in this kind of clubs, more than current in Japan. Conversely, the second season is very pretty, very well done.

Finally good to finish, me it made me say "go, I'll look at Gundam, just to know." What I did and I do not regret it;)
