I like series that are honest, that accept their nature and have no problem with it. Cobra Kai, the sequel to the 80s classic “Karate Kid” is far from perfect, but it's incredibly fun and has a heart.
The plot manages to balance the rope between the absurd and the realistic, with Jonny, years after the events of the original film, going through a "complicated" moment in his life ... with a divorce on top and a son who does not She appreciates precisely, plus a couple of financial problems, her life changes when she meets Miguel, her neighbor, who ends up waking her up again called Cobra Kai.
The plot is built on an interesting concept that the internet had already brought up as a mockery: Daniel San, the karate Kid, is the real villain of the film. This is a simple but effective mechanic that serves to give a lot of depth to the characters of a story that was very simple at first.

Walking between winks to the original trilogy as if they were the sacred scriptures (Which I love) as the series progresses it is difficult to empathize with only one side of the story, each one has reasons to do what they do and more importantly, to be against others.
This wink ride doesn't mean the series gets stuck in the past, it's not afraid to introduce new characters who are just as interesting as the classics and whose interactions always feel organic.
In the end Cobra Kai is a silly series, which progressively becomes more and more exaggerated, but it feels so comfortable in its own skin that it is difficult to detest it.

Me gustan las series que son honestas, que aceptan su naturaleza y no tienen problema con ello. Cobra Kai, la secuela del clásico ochentero “Karate Kid” dista de ser perfecta, pero es increíblemente divertida y tiene corazón.
La trama logra balancear la cuerda entre lo absurdo y lo realista, con Jonny, años después de los eventos de la cinta original, pasando por un momento digamos “complicado” de su vida... con un divorcio encima y un hijo que no le aprecia precisamente, más un par de problemas económicos, su vida cambia cuando conoce a Miguel, su vecino, quien termina despertando de nuevo la llama Cobra Kai.
El argumento se construye en un concepto interesante que internet ya había sacado a relucir a modo de burla: Daniel San, el karate Kid, es el verdadero villano de la película. Esta es una simple pero efectiva mecánica que sirve para darle muchísima profundidad a los personajes de una historia que en principio era muy simple.

Paseando entre guiños a la trilogía original como si fuesen las sagradas escrituras (Que me encanta) a medida que avanza la serie es difícil empatizar con un solo bando de la historia, cada quien tiene razones para hacer lo que hace y más importante, para estar en contra de los demás.
Este paseo de guiños no supone que la serie se estanque en el pasado, no tiene miedo de introducir nuevos personajes que resultan tan interesantes como los clásicos y cuyas interacciones siempre se sienten orgánicas.
Al final Cobra Kai es una serie tonta, que progresivamente se va haciendo más y más exagerada, pero se siente tan cómoda en su propia piel que es difícil detestarla.
