LIGHT SPOILERS
Yesterday I had the opportunity to see Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness and since the moment I left the cinema I have been turning over its content to try to synthesize my thoughts in a Review in a way that faithfully represents what this work did to me To feel, it is not a difficult film to approach only because its quality is inconsistent, but because, like several of the most recent installments of the MCU, its simple existence serves multiple purposes that in the slightest oversight can contradict each other.
It is important to understand that Multiverse of Madness is not only a sequel to Doctor Strange (an almost completely isolated film released in 2016) but also a continuation of the Marvel cinematic universe as a whole (especially if we consider the closure of Spiderman No Way Home, the events of Loki and Wandavision) and the narrative arc of Stephen Strange that has already developed amidst crossovers and cameos.
I highlight this multiplicity because it is quite difficult to expect a product from it where Sam Raimi (its director, recognized for his work on the original Spider-Man trilogy as well as on the classic horror slasher Evil Dead) can give us something outside the parameters usual MCU, not only in aesthetic and technical terms but when it comes to the plot and substance.
I put a lot of emphasis on this because despite how monotonous it is in most of its footage, Multiverse of Madness has brilliant spaces where it feels like something fresh that we have never seen in this titanic franchise.
Doctor Strange 2 is a film that totally renounces the complacent nature of others like No Way Home or Endgame itself, in favor of a slightly more raw and terrifying story, although it refuses to abandon the formula that has worked since time Iron Man with Jon Favreau
And beware, here we enter spoiler territory: One of the most admirable decisions of MoM lies in intelligently continuing the cliffhangers established in Wandavision, putting Wanda Maximoff in an antagonistic position that not only suits her and makes sense, but also improves what that we had already seen in the brilliant exclusive Disney Plus series.
Raimi's hand knows how to play with elements of terror, it was obvious, and they are perhaps the most outstanding aspect of an entertaining but lacking in focus film. In its most charged moments it is difficult not to feel a bitterness in the mouth, the feeling that there are too many things that have been asked to be cut, ready to tell a story that will not ramble for so long in plot points and characters that do nothing but lengthen a journey that could have been so much simpler.
There are quite a few surprises, especially for those who came with low expectations like me, not only is it a film with a dark and chaotic tone, but it makes many brave decisions with its handling of the multiverse that operate in harmony if we consider everything that we knew so far.
There are cameos with unnecessarily long pauses to force a reaction from the audience, yes, but they exist to solidify a logical point within the story being told, thus skillfully balancing something that other "larger scale" movies don't even they would achieve in their dreams.
It is a continuation that drags several of the usual errors of the MCU but that also finds spaces to be unique, originality is valued and it is nice that in the midst of its rebelliousness it ended up being more accommodating than other much softer and more decaffeinated films within this series.

Ayer tuve la oportunidad de ver Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness y desde el momento en que salí del cine he estado dándole vueltas a su contenido para tratar de sintetizar mis pensamientos en una Review de forma que representen con fidelidad lo que esta obra me hizo sentir, no es una película difícil de abordar únicamente porque su calidad es inconsistente, sino porque al igual de varias de las entregas más recientes del MCU su simple existencia sirve múltiples propósitos que en el mínimo descuido pueden contradecirse entre si.
Es importante entender que Multiverse of Madness no es únicamente una secuela a Doctor Strange (Un filme casi completamente aislado estrenado en 2016) sino que también es una continuación del Marvel cinematic universe como un todo (Especialmente si consideramos el cierre de Spiderman No Way Home, los eventos de Loki y Wandavision) y al arco narrativo de Stephen Strange que ya de por sí se ha desarrollado en medio de crossovers y cameos.
Destaco está multiplicidad porque es bastante complicado esperar de ella un producto en dónde Sam Raimi (Su director, reconocido por su trabajo en la trilogía original de Spider-Man así como en el clásicos del horror slasher Evil Dead) pueda otorgarnos algo fuera de los parámetros usuales del MCU, no solo en términos estéticos y técnicos sino cuando se trata de lo argumental y sustancial.
Hago muchísimo enfasis en esto porque a pesar de lo monótona que resulta en la mayoría de su metraje, Multiverse of Madness tiene espacios brillantes en dónde se siente como algo fresco que nunca habíamos visto en esta franquicia tan titanica.
Doctor Strange 2 es una película que renuncia totalmente a la naturaleza tan complaciente de otras como No Way Home o la mismísima Endgame, en favor de una historia un poco más cruda y aterradora, aunque se niegue a abandonar la formula que ha funcionado desde los tiempos de Iron Man con Jon Favreau
Y ojo que aquí entramos en terreno de spoilers: Una de las decisiones más admirables de MoM radica en continuar inteligentemente los cliffhangers establecidos en Wandavision, poniendo a Wanda Maximoff en una posición antagónica que no solo le sienta bien y tiene lógica, sino que mejora lo que ya habíamos visto en la brillante serie exclusiva de Disney Plus.
La mano de Raimi sabe jugar con elementos del terror, era obvio, y quizá son el aspecto más destacado de una película entretenida pero carente de enfoque. En sus momentos más recargados es difícil no sentir un amargo en la boca, la sensación de que hay cosas de más que pidieron haberse recortado, dispuesto a contar una historia que no divagara durante tanto tiempo en plot points y personajes que no hacen más que alargar un viaje que pudo haber Sido mucho más simple.
Hay bastante sorpresas, especialmente para aquellos que acudían con las expectativas bajas como yo, no solo se trata de un filme con un tone oscuro y caótico, sino que toma muchas decisiones valientes con su manejo del multiverso que operan con armonía si consideramos todo lo que sabíamos hasta el momento.
Hay cameos con pausas innecesariamente largas para forzar una reacción del público, si, pero existen para solidificar un punto lógico dentro de la historia que se nos está narrando, logrando de esta manera balancear con habilidad algo que otras cintas "de mayor escala" ni siquiera lograrían en sus sueños.
Es una continuación que arrastra varios de los errores usuales del MCU pero que también encuentra espacios para ser única, la originalidad se valora y es agradable que en medio de su rebeldía terminase siendo más complacientes que otras películas mucho más blandas y descafeinadas dentro de esta serie.
