It is no secret to anyone that Don't Look Up is one of the most relevant films of recent months and just seeing a couple of minutes of it is not exactly difficult to understand why. The brilliant work of Adam McKay released on December 5 exclusively for Netflix not only manages to assemble an impressive cast full of talented actors but also packs in its frames one of the most powerful stories I have seen in a long time.

Presented as a poignant satire on journalism and the sensationalism that characterizes our lives in the 21st century, Don't Look Up plays with elements of humor and science fiction in an exaggerated but always probable way.

With a frenetic pace that can be dazzling, in Don't Look Up we are told a suffocating scenario in which a comet is going to destroy the earth in 6 months and a small group of scientists must deal with counteracting it from all angles.

The interesting thing about Don't Look Up is that instead of taking a romantic and heroic perspective (Much like Michael Hay's Armaggedon) the biggest obstacle for this group of scientists is dealing with the incredibly artificial world of social media and television, which refuses to allow this impending tragedy to be perceived for what it really is.

On the other hand, those who choose to pay attention decide to take advantage of this politically, ignoring the magnitude of this to come.

Don't Look Up is a pretty smart and entertaining movie but it can also be very painful, it operates within parameters where we can recognize its comedic touches but there is also a certain chilling familiarity.

One of the brightest films of last year.

Personally I did not enjoy this film because it is a parody and does not fit into my cinematic preferences. However I have to admit that the concept in which it is written is very interesting.

I watched half of it yesterday and I think that was hilarious and dark. It vividly captures what the elites would do if there's apocalyptic events. It is sickening but not surprising. Though, I hate the bits when Mindy cheated the wife, maybe it's me but I hate that part.
