For me, talk about superhero cinema as a genre is almost offensive, if anything, it is a canvas to tell a story that could be framed in any other genre, we have seen it throughout these last decades: mixed with western in Logan, with comedy like in Thor Ragnarok or Shazam, and even terror in movies like Venom.
The point is that with the right creative vision and a good concept you can take superhero cinema to a very curious place and for me this is the greatest achievement of Chronicle.
I do not like to extend myself with synopsis, in short terms: Chronicle or unlimited power (As it is known in Latin America) is a false documentary where a group of boys in the middle of a party ends up finding a cave in the middle of the forest that for reasons that they are not relevant for the film grants telekinetic superpowers.
In an eerily realistic approach, Chronicle employs this simple plot for a display of human nature, which can be funny and friendly at one point and disastrous at another.
Directed by Josh Trank (who would later direct the infamous Fantastic Four reboot) we are faced with an intimate film with a lot of heart, which tells us about domestic abuse and the effects it can have on young people, alcoholism, bullying, the abuse of power and the impotence that accompanies not being able to help a friend in decadence.
In a matter of minutes you understand their characters, Dane DeHaaan, Michael B. Jordan and Alex Russell have a great chemistry where you can not do more than be happy for their friendship and suffer their subsequent breaks.
From the technical point of view, it exudes ingenuity, each shot is beautiful and ingenious. With a fairly low budget, Chronicle manages to win our hearts, and although it is far from perfect, it shows that superheroes are an excellent canvas for telling great stories.

Para mi hablar del cine de superheroes como un género es casi ofensivo, si acaso, es un lienzo para contar una historia que bien podría enmarcarse en cualquier otro . genero, lo hemos visto a lo largo de estas ultimas décadas: mezclas con el western en cintas como Logan, con la comedia como Thor Ragnarok o Shazam, e incluso el terror en cintas como Venom.
El punto es que con la visión creativa adecuada y un buen concepto puede llevarse el cine de superheroes a lugar curiosísimos y este es el logro principal de Chronicle.
No me gusta extenderme con sinopsis, en resumen Chronicle o poder sin límites (Como se conoce en latino américa) es un documental falso en donde un grupo de muchachos en medio de una fiesta termina encontrándose con una cueva en medio del bosque que por razones que no son revelantes para el film otorgan superpoderes telekineticos.
Con un acercamiento extrañamente realista Chronicle emplea esta simple trama para una demostración cruda de la naturaleza humana, que en un momento puede ser divertida y amistosa y en otro puede ser desastrosa.
Dirigida por Josh Trank (Quien posteriormente dirigiría el infame reboot de Fantastic Four) nos encontramos ante un filme intimo y con muchísima corazón, que nos habla del maltrato domestico y los efectos que pueden tener en los jóvenes, el alcoholismo, el bullying, sobre el abuso de poder y la impotencia que acompaña el no poder ayudar a un amigo en decadencia.
En cuestión de minutos entiendes a sus personajes, Dane DeHaaan, Michael B. Jordan y Alex Russell cuentan con una química genial en donde no puedes hacer más que alegrarse por su amistad y sufrir sus quiebres posteriores
Desde lo técnico destila ingenio, cada plano es hermoso e ingenioso. Con un presupuesto bastante bajo Chronicle logra ganarse nuestros corazones, y aunque dista de ser perfecta, demuestra que los superheroes son un excelente lienzo para contar grandes historias.
