The idea that cinema should always convey an important message or a life lesson is a bit pretentious ... Sometimes a film only exists to entertain and that's fine. The important thing is that we as spectators enjoy the trip and in the end we keep something: the laughter, the new ideas, the joys or sorrows. If you take Project X (2013) for example, it may not seek to make you reflect, but the ability it has to make you have fun throughout its run-time is undeniable.
Es un poco pretenciosa la idea de que el cine siempre debe transmitir un mensaje importante, una enseñanza de vida... A veces un filme solo existe para entretener y eso esta bien. Lo importante es que nosotros como espectadores disfrutemos el viaje y al final nos quedemos con algo: con las risas, con las nuevas ideas, con las alegrías o tristezas. Si tomas por ejemplo Proyecto X (2013) quizá no busque ponerte a reflexionar pero es innegable la capacidad que tiene para divertirte a lo largo de su run-time.
When I came across with The Babysitters on Amazon Prime I was expecting something in that fashion, its cover suggests a movie in a very American Pie unapologetic style, when reading the premise my interest increased considerably, it felt like something very serious: A teenage girl works as a babysitter in her spare time to earn extra money and ends up falling in love with the father of one of the children she takes cares for, which later leads to her forming a prostitution business.
Cuando me topé con The Babysitters en Amazon Prime (O Niñera para Adultos, como se conoció en latino-america) esperaba algo muy en ese plan, su portada sugiere una película un poco subida de tono muy American Pie, irreverente y sin ánimos de disculparse, al leer la premisa mi interés aumentó considerablemente, se sentía como algo muy serio: Una adolescente trabaja como niñera en sus ratos libres para ganar un dinero extra y termina enamorándose del padre de uno de lo niños que cuida, lo que posteriormente desemboca un negocio de prostitución.
The premise sounds absurd and yes, a bit alarming these days standars, but in the right hands it could have been a stinging criticism of the hyper-sexualization of adolescents and pimping as a way of making a living, of course The Babysitters don't even makes an attempt to chase these things.
La premisa suena absurda y si, un poco alarmante en los tiempos que corren, pero en las manos correctas pudo haber sido una critica punzante a la hiper-sexualización de los adolescentes y al proxetenismo como forma de ganarse la vida, por supuesto The Babysitters ni siquiera hace el intento de perseguir estas cosas.

No aporta absolutamente nada, ¿Comedia Negra? Puede ser, si contamos el humor involuntario como comedia, luego de casi hora y media no existe absolutamente nada de valor que puedas extraer de ahí, la película lucha con su propio tono, tratando de buscar desesperadamente una identidad. A veces intentará ser un retrato crudo a la prostitución infantil solo para abandonar la idea a los 5 minutos y convertirse en un Mean Girls que no viene a cuento.
