When extraction was released directly on Netflix a couple of years ago I think I'm talking about everything when I admit it was a pleasant surprise, although Sam Hargrave's debut could be lost in the sea of modern action films that is released every year, there was a couple of differentiating factors that made it work, without obviously reaching the quality of a slightly more "experimental" work like John Wick or Kingsman.
Playing it safe (something evident with the presence of Chris Hemsworth as the protagonist, at the height of his career), Extraction was a typical but effective work, where we observe how a skilled mercenary tries to save the life of a young man belonging to a family wealthy in the middle of the chaotic streets of India.
And it is that although this premise was very generic, the quality of the extensive action sequences was undeniable (even counting on a 12-minute sequence shot that blew my mind), as well as the establishment of a sufficiently charismatic set of characters as to charge with two hours of duration.
Regarding the sequel, we are facing one of those cases of "we don't need it but we get it", considering that this same formula can be applied to an indefinite number of continuations, changing the antagonists, the location, and adding one or another visual incentive .
The circumstances on which a film like Extraction 2 is built are conflictive for me, because although the positive points of the first part are maintained, and new ideas that work well within the whole are established, unfortunately the full potential that it offers is not exploited. there is.
This time Tyler Rake (Barely recovered from the injuries caused by the events of Extraction 1) is assigned a new mission: Save his ex-girlfriend's sister and her two children, who are "kidnapped" by her husband, the leader of a powerful organized gang.
Take sees this as an opportunity to find meaning in his life, as well as redeem himself from his dark past.
The thing is that beyond this, there isn't much juice in the conflict, the logic of the characters (apart from Rake) falls apart every time we try to find it, and apart from a couple of well-executed dramatic moments there is no thematic coherence. .
If there's one reason to watch Extraction 2, it would be the way it presents its action sequences, which, while often a little over the top, represent a level of craftsmanship rare in modern action cinema.
Like its predecessor we have a great long take, only this time the bet has almost doubled and it lasts more than 20 minutes, unfortunately it comes very early in the film and after it there is nothing like it in terms of emotion .
Extraction 2 is a nice but forgettable movie, it still delivers exactly what it promises and those who were satisfied with the first part are assured of a fun sequel.

Cuando hace un par de años se estrenó extraction directamente en Netflix creo que hablo de todo cuando admito que fue una grata sorpresa, si bien el debut de Sam Hargrave podía perderse en el mar de películas de acción modernas que se estrena cada año, había un par de factores diferenciadores que la hacían resultar, sin obviamente llegar a la calidad de una obra un poco más "experimental" como John Wick o Kingsman.
Jugando a lo seguro (Algo evidente con la presencia de Chris Hemsworth como protagonista, en la cúspide de su carrera), Extraction era una obra típica pero efectiva, en dónde observamos como un hábil mercenario intenta salvar la vida de un joven perteneciente a una familia pudiente en medio de las caóticas calles de la India.
Y es que si bien esta premisa resultaba muy genérica, era innegable la calidad de las extensas secuencias de acción (Contando incluso con un plano secuencia de 12 minutos que me voló la cabeza), así como el establecimiento de un set de personajes lo suficientemente carismáticos como para cargar con dos horas de duración.
Respecto a la secuela estamos frente a uno de esos casos de "no la necesitamos pero la recibimos", considerando que esta misma fórmula puede aplicarse a una cantidad indefinida de continuaciones, cambiando a los antagonistas, la ubicación, y añadiendo uno que otro incentivo visual.
La circunstancias sobre las cuales se construye una película como Extraction 2 resultan conflictivas para mí, porque si bien se mantienen los puntos positivos de la primera parte, y se establecen nuevas ideas que operan bien dentro del conjunto, lastimosamente no se aprovecha todo el potencial que hay.
En esta ocasión a Tyler Rake (Apenas recuperado de las heridas que causaron los eventos de Extraction 1) se le asigna una nueva misión: Salvar a la hermana de su ex novia y sus dos hijos, quiene se encuentran "secuestrados" por su marido, el líder de una poderosa banda organizada.
Take ve esto como una oportunidad para encontrarse sentido en su vida, así como redimirse de su pasado oscuro.
La cuestión es que más allá de esto, no existe mucho jugo en el conflicto, la lógica de los personajes (Aparte de Rake) se desmorona cada vez que tratamos de encontrarla, y aparte de un par de momentos dramáticos bien ejecutados no existe coherencia temática.
Si hay un motivo para ver Extraction 2 sería la forma en la que presenta sus secuencias de acción, que, si bien suelen caer en lo exagerado, representan un nivel de artesanía poco común en el cine de acción moderno.
Al igual que su predecesora tenemos una estupenda long take, solo que está vez casi se ha duplicado la apuesta y dura más de 20 minutos, lastimosamente llega muy temprano en la película y luego de ella no hay nada que se le asemeje en términos de emoción.
Extraction 2 es una película agradable pero olvidable, de igual forma cumple exactamente con lo que promete y aquellos que se sintieron satisfechos con la primera parte tienen asegurada una secuela divertida.
