I've been watching the Friends reunion trailer a couple of times, I really don't know how to feel about it, on the one hand, although Friends is far from being my favorite comedy, I have immense respect for it as a piece of comedy that together with giants like Senfield or later series such as Two And Half Men or the Big Bang Theory itself maintained their quality consistently throughout the years with charismatic characters and legions of fans behind and it is not for nothing, these series have a formula that works.
The question is, what does it say about us and the state of TV that one of the biggest projects of 2021 is the reunion of Friends? I have debated this with several people and the truth is, I do not see it with good eyes.
The problem with the trailer and what it promises is a show that does not make any effort to reinvent itself, there is no persecution of the meta-comment that the 90th series lacks so much, times have changed and it would be very interesting to see how El Paso Time has affected our perception of the series, but on the contrary, we have a kind of talk show with James Corden (always unbearable) who does nothing but gloat over the success of Friends without questioning its now obvious flaws.
The result, of course, I will look forward to it, but the truth is, of so many things I wanted, I feel that they delivered the worst to me.
It's not that I don't miss the actors, who have an undeniable chemistry, it's not that I don't miss the sets or want to hear intimate anecdotes of the experience that everyone lived in it, but from a point of view of pure narrative, and as someone who I would like to see a continuation at the end (Out of sheer curiosity, because the ending was perfect), all of this seems like little to me.
Anyway, I'll be enjoying the Friends reunion from the opening day, maybe I'm being very pessimistic and it ends up surprising me.
In the meantime, I will continue to fantasize about the idea of a true continuation, continuation that serves as a commentary on the changes in the comedy and television industry, maturing characters so loved by the public, without fear of leaving their own comfort zone .
He estado viendo el trailer del reencuentro de Friends un par de veces a la verdad no sé cómo sentirme al respecto, por un lado, aunque Friends dista de ser mi comedia favorita le tengo un respeto inmenso como una pieza de comedia que junto a gigantes como Senfield o series posteriores como Two And Half Men o la propia Big Bang Theory mantuvieron su calidad de forma consistente a lo largo de los años con personajes carismáticos y legiones de fanaticos detrás y no es por nada, estas series tienen una fórmula que funciona.
La pregunta es, ¿Qué dice de nosotros y del estado de la TV que uno de los proyectos más grandes del 2021 sea el reencuentro de Friends? He debatido esto con varias personas y la verdad, no lo veo con buenos ojos.
El problema del trailer y lo que promete es un espectáculo que no hace ningún tipo de esfuerzo por reinventarse, no existe ninguna persecución al meta-comentario que tanto le hace falta a la serie 90tera, los tiempos han cambiado y sería interesantísimo ver como El Paso del tiempo ha afectado nuestra percepción de la serie, pero todo lo contrario, tenemos una especie de talk Show con James Corden (siempre insoportable) que no hace más que regodearse en el éxito de Friends sin cuestionar sus ahora evidentes fallas.
El resultado, por supuesto, lo esperaré con ansias, pero la verdad, de tantas cosas que deseaba siento que me entregaran lo peor.
No es que no extrañe a los actores, quienes tienen una química innegable, no es que no extrañe los sets ni desee escuchar anécdotas íntimas de la experiencia que vivieron todos en ella, pero desde un punto de vista de pura narrativa, y como alguien que quisiera ver una continuación al final (Por puro morbo, porque el final fue perfecto), todo esto me sabe a poco.
Igual, estaré disfrutado la reunión de Friends desde el día de estreno, quizá estoy siendo muy pesimista y me termina sorprendiendo.
Mientras tanto, seguiré fantaseando con la idea de una verdadera continuación, continuación que sirva de comentario sobre los cambios en la industria de la comedia y la televisión, madurando a personajes tan queridos por el público, sin miedo a salir de su propia zona de confort.
