Get Out is along side other films such as Midsommar, Cabin in the Woods and Hereditary responsible for revitalizing terror in the decade that has just passed. Why? Because they are capable of delivering frightening experiences without going through the typical cliches of the genre, always saying something interesting about human nature, our behavior and our failures as a society.
Directed by Jordan Peele, a fact that by itself is surprising -Considering that Peele is mainly dedicated to comedy- Get Out follows the story of a photographer of color named Chris Washington on a trip to meet the family of his white girlfriend, Chris gradually begins to notice strange behavior in the Armitage family, with weird racist comments they reveal twisted intentions.
On the surface Get Out is a slasher film in which a vulnerable character seeks to escape, but analyzing it in depth it is -without the intention of spoiling it- a study on racism in the United States, and the idea of the black population as "superior" biologically, due to his genetic background - which of course is also an intrinsically racist idea. Let no one be confused by the word "terror", Get Out is carefully constructed, each shot is beautiful, it is very well acted and full of symbolism that goes far beyond the obvious.
Peele hides in a slasher film a sharp criticism of the American society, which in the midst of this era is more relevant than ever. Ever since Redbone (A contemporary classic song by rapper Childish Gambino) plays in the first few seconds of the footage, you know you're about to see a work of art in a genre where it's unusual.
With shades of black comedy Get Out is never boring, it always has something to offer, there is always something to look forward to. If you do not know anything about the film, it is best to see it blindly, allowing yourself to be surprised. I highlight the performances of the entire cast, especially Lakeith Stanfield -Again, no spoiler mood- who gives a brutal performance that operates on many levels, I also highlight Daniel Kaluuya, who obtained a well-deserved Oscar nomination.
I like movies there are different, cinema that operates outside of the schemes that everyone else follows, cinema that is not satisfied with just delivering anything. Get Out is all this and more, absolutely recommended.

Dirigida por Jordan Peele, hecho que por si solo ya resulta sorprendete -Considerando que Peele se dedica principalmente a la comedia- Get Out sigue la historia de un fotógrafo de color llamado Chris Washington en un viaje para conocer a la familia de su novia blanca, progresivamente Chris empieza a notar comportamientos extraños en la familia Armitage, con comentarios que rozando en lo racista dejan ver intenciones retorcidas.
En la superficie Get Out es un slasher film en donde un personaje vulnerable busca escapar, pero analizándola con profundidad es -Sin animos de spoilear- un estudio sobre el racismo en Estados Unidos, y la idea de la población negra como "superior" biologicamente, debido a su historial genético -Lo cual por supuesto también es intrínsecamente racista-. Que nadie se confunda por la palabra "terror", Get Out esta cuidadosamente construida, cada toma es hermosa, esta muy bien actuada y llena de simbolismos que van muchísimo más allá de lo obvio.
Peele esconde en film slasher una critica punzante a la sociedad americana, que en medio de esta era resulta más relevante que nunca. Desde que Redbone (Un clásico contemporáneo del rapero Childish Gambino) suena en los primeros segundos de metraje sabes que estas a punto de ver una obra de arte en un genero donde resulta inusual.
Con tintes de comedia negra Get Out nunca resulta aburrida, siempre tiene algo que ofrecer, siempre hay algo que esperar. Si no saben nada sobre la cinta lo mejor es verla a ciegas, dejándose sorprender. Destaco las actuaciones de todo el cast, especialmente a Lakeith Stanfield -De nuevo, sin animos de spoiler- quien otorga un performance brutal que opera en muchísimos niveles, también destaco a Daniel Kaluuya, quien obtuvo una nominación al Oscar muy merecida.
Me gusta el cine diferente, el cine que opera fuera de los esquemas que todos los demás siguen, el cine que no se conforma con entregar cualquier cosa. Get Out es todo esto y más, absolutamente recomendada.
