For many, perhaps the topic of this post feels a little out of place, far from the scheme of tastes of most of the members of this great community (And I understand it), but I feel that it is a very good opportunity to extract several important topics that seem to be more relevant than ever.
Of course, we also have a very generational issue, I was born in 99 so obviously my childhood was closely connected to all those Nickelodeon sitcoms produced by the infamous Dan Schneider, I wish all this was taken into account by those who did not grow up with iCarly , for whatever reason (age or different interests at the time).
For those who are totally unaware of it, iCarly is a comedy series released in 2007 that had 5 seasons and tells the story of three boys who decide to start a webshow that is extremely popular, in this way then it is a vehicle of hundreds of gags with early internet humor and dialogue ranging from mildly attractive to unbearable (As you would expect in a series for children and adolescents)
While I don't want to spend a lot of time on details, iCarly is one of the most efficient comedies Nickelodeon had on its staff, creating iconic characters with pretty solid story arcs, a good amount of inside jokes, and of course a ton of related merchandise.
The point is that after a couple of months where news of a possible reboot circulated (that more than reboot would be a continuation of the series as the sixth season) that would follow the lives of Carly, Freddie and Spencer 10 years after the original events .
The Internet as usual was absurdly polarized about it, with a group of people detesting the cynicalness of the idea (if we consider that Sam and Gibby, two crucial characters, would not return) and another group anxious and full of nostalgia to be able to revive the adventures of this group of people with a more adult angle.
On these two sides of the coin it was difficult for me to take a position, especially because after the first two seasons my interest in the original series waned and the truth was that everything did not matter to me. However, I am a shameless advocate and felt the idea had potential.
So what happened? Well, the new season of iCarly is precisely what it offers, a competent sequel that manages to advance the plot organically and carries the same cheesy nature of its predecessor.
As I said before, here the approach will be more adult, this not only moves to the age of the characters but to the themes of the series and how it decides to approach them, containing quite recurrent references to sex, alcohol, and mature themes in general.
With a gimmicky nature it would be a bit pedantic to want any more and it is difficult to criticize a work that is so honest.
On the other hand, it is admirable that he manages to make El Paso del tiempo feel like nothing and embraces his new characters with such enthusiasm, also knowing how to adapt the essence of the "old school".
iCarly serves as a perfect and optimistic commentary on the culture of the sequels and reboots (necessary or not) that although they are cold searches for money also have a certain respect for their origins.
It's almost humorous that a Nickelodeon children's sitcom ended up being one of the most interesting sources of continuations over time, something that much more mature works have failed to achieve.
Bottom line: it's silly fun, no one here is going to win an Emmy or go down in history as a work of art, but this raw honesty has an indescribable magnetism and I'm interested in what will happen in the chapters to come.
iCarly was originally an almost prophetic portrait of modern life on the internet (Sometimes very accurate and sometimes not), so it is exciting to live it in the middle of 2022, with all that our world has changed.

Para muchos quizá el tema de este post se sienta un poco fuera de lugar, lejano al esquema de gustos de la mayoría de los miembros de esta gran comunidad (Y lo entiendo), pero siento que es una oportunidad muy buena para extraer varios temas importantes que parecen tener más relevancia que nunca.
Por supuesto, tenemos también un asunto muy generacional, nací en el 99 así que obviamente mi infancia estuvo estrechamente conectada a todas esas sitcoms de Nickelodeon producidas por el infame Dan Schneider, quisiera que todo esto fuese tomado en cuenta por aquellos que no crecieron con iCarly, por cualquier razón que fuese (Edad o intereses distintos en la época).
Para los que la desconocen totalmente, iCarly es una serie de comedia estrenada en el 2007 que contó con 5 temporadas y narra la historia de tres chicos que deciden iniciar un webshow que resulta extremadamente popular, de esta forma entonces es un vehículo de cientos de gags con early internet humor y diálogos que van desde lo medianamente atractivo hasta lo insoportable (Como es de esperar en una serie para niños y adolescentes)
Aunque no quiero gastar mucho tiempo en detalles, iCarly es una de las comedias más eficientes que Nickelodeon tuvo en su plantilla, creando personajes icónicos y con arcos narrativos bastante sólidos, una buena cantidad de inside jokes y por supuesto muchísima mercancía relacionada.
La cuestión es que luego de un par de meses en donde circularon noticias de un posible reboot (Que más que reboot sería una continuación a la serie como sexta temporada) que seguiría la vida de Carly, Freddie y Spencer 10 años después de los eventos originales.
Internet como es de costumbre se encontraba absurdamente polarizado al respecto, con un grupo de gente detestando lo cínico de la idea (Si aparte consideramos que Sam y Gibby, dos personajes cruciales, no regresarían) y otro grupo ansioso y lleno de nostalgia por poder revivir las aventuras de este grupo de gente con un ángulo más adulto.
En estos dos lados de la moneda me costó bastante tomar una posición, especialmente porque luego de las primeras dos temporadas mi interés por la serie original decayó y la verdad todo me daba igual. No obstante, soy un defensor desvergonzado y sentía que la idea tenía potencial.
Entonces, ¿Que pasó? Bueno, la nueva temporada de iCarly es precisamente lo que ofrece, una secuela competente que logra avanzar la trama de forma orgánica y arrastra la misma naturaleza cursi de su antecesora.
Como dije antes, aquí el acercamiento será más adulto, esto no solo se traslada a la edad de los personajes sino a los temas de la serie y como decide abordarlos, conteniendo referencias bastante recurrentes al sexo, alcohol, y temas maduros en general.
Con una naturaleza gimmicky sería un poco pedante esperar más y es difícil criticar una obra que es tan honesta.
En cambio es admirable que logre hacer que El Paso del tiempo se sienta como si nada y abrace sus nuevos personajes con tanto entusiasmo, sabiendo también adaptar la esencia de los “vieja escuela”.
iCarly sirve como un comentario perfecto y optimista sobre la cultura de las secuelas y los reboots (Necesarios o no) que aunque sean frías búsquedas de dinero también tienen cierto respeto por sus orígenes.
Es casi chistoso que una sitcom infantil de Nickelodeon terminara siendo una de las fuentes más interesantes de continuaciones a lo largo del tiempo, algo que obras mucho más maduras han fracasado en lograr.
En conclusión: es diversión tonta, aquí nadie va a ganar un Emmy ni va a pasar a la historia como una obra de arte, pero esta honestidad cruda tiene un magnetismo indescriptible y estoy interesado en que sucederá en los capítulos que vienen.
iCarly originalmente fue un retrato casi profético de la vida moderna en internet (A veces muy acertada y a veces no), así que es emocionante vivirla en pleno 2022, con todo lo que nuestro mundo ha cambiado.
¿fan de la serie original? Totalmente recomendada.
