Although when we see any sequel the normal thing is to expect an evolution and continuation of the events that took place in the first film, I like those works that perfectly understand what worked in the first place and decide to repeat it again, obviously, also adding a couple of new elements to the dynamics.
In my review of Raiders of the Lost Ark (The first Indiana Jones film) I recognized that one of the aspects that I had enjoyed the most was how it was just another adventure in the life of a man who had obviously faced many similar things, something that created the potential for more "episodes" that, without many long-term narrative ambitions, did nothing more than portray one more adventure.
It is a curious experiment if we compare it with other successful franchises such as Star Wars or Back to the future, which despite being conceived as isolated stories ended up lengthening and extending their own myths in a rather episodic way.
"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" rejects this philosophy, and while it embraces several elements seen in Riders and seems to present a more mature version of the character we saw in the desert, it's vague enough in terms of continuity that it doesn't weigh on us not having seeing it in the first place.
For many it is the best film in the franchise and it is not difficult to understand why, Temple of Doom not only has a series of iconic moments that have been permanently embedded in popular culture, but also introduces a range of iconic secondary characters that enhance Very good performance by Harrison Ford. Short Round (Played by Ke Huy Quan, who recently won an Oscar for Everything, Everywhere, At All Once") and Willie Scott, serve to add a bit more density to the archaeologist, creating a funnier and more emotional film without the need for fall into the tedious corniness.
Although I miss those academic moments that Raiders of the Lost Ark scattered here and there (Where we could see the day to day of Dr. Jones) it is undeniable that Temple of Doom is a more agile and interesting film, which starts with a bang and he never slows down.

Aunque cuando vemos cualquier secuela lo normal es esperar una evolución y continuación de los eventos que transcurrieron en la primera película, me gustan aquellas obras que entienden a la perfección lo que funcionó en primer lugar y deciden repetirlo de nuevo, obviamente, añadiendo también un par de elementos nuevos a la dinámica.
En mi reseña de Raiders of the Lost Ark (La primera película de Indiana Jones) reconocía que uno de los aspectos que había disfrutado más, era como se trataba de una aventura más en la vida de un hombre que evidentemente había enfrentado muchas cosas similares, algo que creaba el potencial de más "episodios" que, sin muchas ambiciones narrativas a largo plazo, no hicieran más que retratar una aventura más.
Es un experimento curioso si lo comparamos con otras exitosas franquicias como Star Wars o Back to the future, quienes a pesar de ser concebidas como historias aisladas terminaron alargándose y extendiendo sus propios mitos de forma bastante episodia.
"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" rechaza esta filosofía, y aunque abraza varios elementos vistos en Riders y parece presentar una versión más madura del personaje que vimos en el desierto, es lo suficientemente vaga en términos de continuidad como para que no nos pese no haberla visto en primer lugar.
Para muchos es la mejor película de la franquicia y no es difícil entender por qué, Temple of Doom no solo cuenta con una serie de momentos iconicos que se han clavado permanentemente en la cultura popular, sino que introduce un abanico de personajes secundarios iconicos que realzan muy bien el performance de Harrison Ford. Short Round (Interpretado por Ke Huy Quan, quien recientemente ganó un Oscar gracias a Everything, Everywhere, At All Once") y Willie Scott, sirven para darle un poco de más densidad al arqueológo, creando una película más divertida y emotiva sin necesidad de caer en la tediosa cursilería.
Si bien extraño aquellos momentos académicos que Raiders of the Lost Ark esparcía aqui y allá (Dónde podíamos ver el día a día del Dr. Jones) es innegable que Temple of Doom es una película más ágil e interesante, que empieza por todo lo alto y nunca baja el ritmo.
