In the end, the idea is to break the dichotomy between Tony and his suits, showing that he is still Iron Man with them or without them.
Therefore, although the trip has its quite bitter moments (I was never a fan of the implementation of extremis in the film and the villains linked to it) it has an ambiguous but effective ending, which at times seems to imply that Tony's story Stark finished, when the opposite happened.

Aunque en la actualidad aparentemente Marvel perfeccionó su formula y es difícil de imaginar una de sus películas siendo un completo fracaso, la cosa no siempre fue así, incluso a mediados de 2013 (5 años después del estreno de la icónica Iron Man), el estudio de Feige aún veía resultados agridulces con más de uno de sus lanzamientos, aunque fuesen un éxito en taquilla.
Iron Man 2 no fue muy querida por los fans, pero se estrenó en un momento pre-Avengers en donde pareciera que el estándar de calidad era un poco más bajo, y siento que precisamente eso fue lo que afectó la percepción del público sobre Iron Man 3 cuando finalmente se estrenó.

Siempre me fascinó de Iron Man 3 que logra continuar con el desarrollo de Tony Stark, resolviendo conflictos y planteando algunos nuevos, y para mi, ese es el alma incomprendida de esta película.

Dirigida por Shane Black, aquí presenciamos un creciente terror en la mente de Tony, luego de presenciar la invasión alienígena de Avengers, como consecuencia de esto, empieza a desarrollar una cantidad absurda de armaduras, lo cual se interpreta como una falta de fe en su valor intrínseco sin ellas.

Al final, la idea es romper la dicótoma entre Tony y sus trajes, demostrando que el sigue siendo Iron Man con ellos o sin ellos.
Por eso, si bien el viaje tiene sus momentos bastante amargos (Nunca fui fan de la implementación de extremis en el filme y los villanos vinculados a ella) tiene un final ambiguo pero efectivo, que a ratos pareciera dar a entender que la historia de Tony Stark acabó, cuando pasó todo lo contrario.

Aunque siento que Iron Man 3 palidece frente a entregas más recientes del MCU, hay mucho valor no solo estético sino filosófico en el metraje, una cinta intima que tuvo la enorme tarea de lidiar con el impacto que Avengers tuvo en toda la cultura pop en el 2012.
