Puss in Boots - The Last Wish (2022) review: What a time to be alive.

Since I saw its first trailer I was very interested in seeing Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the use of an animation style clearly inspired by films like Into The Spider-Verse mixed with a naturally existentialist premise were two wonderful incentives to give it a try. Despite its lackluster predecessor, while Puss in Boots 1 wasn't objectively bad, we have to admit that the execution wasn't quite as neat and a spinoff of an iconic franchise like Shrek deserved something better.

The Last Wish offers just that, trying to explore this world riddled with satire and parody of classic fairy tales in a way that feels fresh and different without existing to the detriment of what Shrek had previously established.

Obviously, this is a film whose main focus is children's, but at the same time elements are introduced that can be appreciated by basically any type of audience, in this way, despite being so predictable, it ends up giving us a fun journey where endearing characters abound.

His premise? We follow Puss in Boots and her friends in the middle of a dangerous journey in order to come across a magical star that grants wishes. Its purpose? Regain all the cat lives that he has lost over the years as a result of his wild lifestyle.

The main conflict of the film lies not only in the adventure that its protagonists embark on, but rather in the way in which Puss deals with his own mortality, as well as his inability to establish connections with other living beings, something that is clearly reflected in his perpetual solitude.

This trip serves as an excuse to parade us through a magical world where danger is a real constant, anyone can die and the stakes are always high.

The Last Wish is a very neat film in many aspects, its animation style has a very strong personality and makes good use of the excellent moments of action, the cast delivers performances of a very good level and the general rhythm of the film is maintained very well throughout. most of the footage. It is far superior to its predecessor and revives hopes for a full-fledged Shrek sequel, the public deserves it.

The Last Wish es una película muy prolija en muchísimos aspectos, su estilo de animación tiene una personalidad bastante marcada y aprovecha muy bien los excelentes momentos de acción, el cast entrega performances de muy buen nivel y el ritmo general del film se mantiene muy bien durante la mayoría del metraje. Es bastante superior a su predecesora y reaviva las esperanzas por una secuela de Shrek con todas las de la ley, el público lo merece.
