Although it is far from being my favorite animated series, I have always felt absolute respect for South Park, the Matt Stone and Trey Parker project that began as a humble and vulgar animated short progressively earned a place in the Olympus of popular culture, next to from other giants like The Simpsons or even Family Guy.
For me, part of the formula for his own success lies not so much in his relentless humor (Having quality comedians behind it as screenwriters throughout his entire run) but in the ability it has to address certain "sensitive" topics as satire with a unique skill.
Of course, starting the decade of the 2020s, the problems of our society have not been exactly scarce and this is a situation that South Park is happy to address, starting from the very name of this brilliant special: South Park - Post COVID.
Presented as one of the many exclusive South Park movies that will receive the Paramount Plus platform, Post COVID could feel like just another extended episode of the bunch... although in reality it is far from it.
Post COVID, on the other hand, ends up being an study of all the characters that inhabit this fictional town in Colorado, intelligently using the passage of time as a resource to deliver a story that knows how to mix very well the typical comedy of South Park with surprisingly moving elements.
Although his satire is not subtle at all, it manages to open the doors to a fairly dense conversation about how we collectively face this pandemic, the effects that confinement had on the way we relate to each other and how difficult it is to fight misinformation. and polarized political compasses.
On the other hand, it is surprising that in an hour long Post COVID, it knows how to balance all these dense comments with everything that involves aging all the characters, evolving their personalities and being able to take them to a place where everything feels perfectly organic. It is a feast of fan service that plays with our expectations and takes advantage of every minute to tell a very interesting story.
Anyway, South Park - Post COVID was quite a pleasant experience and I can't wait to watch its sequel (which, by the way, has already been released).

Aunque dista de ser mi serie animada favorita siempre he sentido un respeto absoluto por South Park, el proyecto de Matt Stone y Trey Parker que inició como un humilde y vulgar corto animado progresivamente fue ganandose un lugar en el Olimpo de la cultura popular, al lado de otros gigantes como The Simpsons o Family Guy.
Para mí parte de la fórmula de su propio éxito radica no tanto en su implacable humor (Teniendo detrás a comediantes de calidad durante toda su vida como guionistas) sino por la habilidad que tiene para abordar ciertos temas "delicados" a modo de sátira con una habilidad única.
Por supuesto, arrancando la década de los 2020s los problemas de nuestra sociedad no han sido precisamente escasos y está es una situación que South Park tiene todo el gusto de abordar, partiendo desde el propio nombre de este brillante especial: South Park - Post COVID.
Presentada como una de las tantas películas exclusivas de South Park que recibirá la plataforma de Paramount Plus, Post COVID podría sentirse como un episodio extendido más del montón... aunque en realidad dista muchísimo de serlo.
Post COVID en cambio termina siendo un inteligente estudio a todos los personajes que habitan este pueblo ficticio de colorado, utilizando inteligentemente el paso del tiempo como recurso para entregar una historia que sabe mezclar muy bien la típica comedia de South Park con elementos sorprendentemente conmovedores.
A pesar de que su sátira no es para nada sutil, logra abrir las puertas a una conversación bastante densa sobre cómo afrontamos colectivamente está pandemia, los efectos que tuvo el confinamiento en la forma en que nos relacionamos y lo difícil que es luchar con la desinformación y los compases políticos polarizados.
Por otro lado, es sorprendente que en una hora de duración Post COVID sepa balancear todos estos densos comentarios con todo lo que supone envejecer a todos los personajes, evolucionando sus personalidades y siendo capaz de llevarlos a un lugar en dónde todo se siente perfectamente orgánico. Se trata de un festín de fan service que juega con nuestras expectativas y aprovecha cada minuto para contar una historia muy interesante.
En fin, South Park - Post COVID fue una experiencia bastante grata y no veo la hora de ponerme a ver su secuela (Que por cierto, ya se estrenó).
