Yesterday I decided to finally give the new South Park special exclusive to Paramount Plus (Post COVID) a try. As those who read my post about it will know, it ended up being a pleasant surprise that knew how to mix in its short duration a good amount of development for its characters with a simple and fun plot that at the same time offered a lot of potential to satirize various aspects of our current (And possibly future) society.
With its direct sequel (Return to Covid) in front of me, I am quite happy to report that it not only met my expectations, but exceeded them in several unexpected ways.
Return To Covid takes up this crazy story with drugs, time travel and cryptocurrencies and moves them to a totally fresh plane, intelligently reflecting on the way in which American society faced this global tragedy without putting itself on any edge of the political compass.
For the writers of South Park, it is more interesting to delve into our reactions to COVID than in its own biological effects, studying the fear that we all felt for many months and providing a space to breathe and correct our mistakes.
The usual controversies of the animated series remain constant in Return to Covid, it is a vulgar and irreverent project that has no intention of apologizing to its audience, sharp in its criticism and capable of being introspective at all times. The brilliance of the film lies in how it again perfectly balances character development with interesting conflict in such a short amount of time, doing so much more for the pandemic in one hour than much other media over nearly two years.
I honestly can't find anything to complain about, Return To Covid is a solid piece of work that goes all out with its ambitious concept... and then some.
Ayer decidí darle finalmente una oportunidad al nuevo especial de South Park exclusivo para Paramount Plus: Post COVID. Cómo sabrán los que leyeron mi post al respecto terminó siendo una grata sorpresa que supo mezclar en su corta duración una buena cantidad de desarrollo para sus personajes con una trama simple y divertida que al mismo tiempo brindaba mucho potencial para satirizar diversos aspectos de nuestra sociedad actual.
Teniendo frente a mi su secuela directa (Return to Covid), me alegra bastante informarles que no solo logró cumplir con mis expectativas, sino que las excedió en diversos aspectos inesperados.
Return To Covid retoma está alocada historia con drogas, viajes en el tiempo y criptomonedas y las lleva a un plano totalmente fresco, reflexionando de forma inteligente sobre la manera en la que la sociedad norteamericana afrontó está tragedia mundial sin ponerse en ningún borde del compas político.
Para los escritores de South Park es más interesante ahondar en nuestras reacciones ante el COVID que en sus propios efectos biológicos, estudiando el miedo que todos sentimos durante muchos meses y brindando un espacio para respirar y corregir nuestros errores.
Las polémicas usuales de la serie animada siguen siendo constantes en Return to Covid, es un proyecto vulgar e irreverente que no tiene ningún tipo de intensión por disculparse con su audiencia, punzante en sus críticas y capaz de ser introspectiva en todo momento. Lo brillante del filme radica en cómo de nuevo balancea perfectamente el desarrollo de sus personajes con un conflicto interesante en tan poco tiempo, haciendo por la pandemia mucho más durante una hora que muchos otros medios de comunicacióna lo largo de casi dos años.
Honestamente no puedo encontrar nada de que quejarme, Return To Covid es una obra sólida que hace todo lo posible con su ambicioso concepto... y un poco más.
