As some of you may have noticed a few days ago I decided to experiment with a slightly "different" style of posting, leaving aside my classic reviews and focusing on an in-depth analysis of Twilight, I found in this divisive film a perfect opportunity to highlight its negative aspects and positive from a perspective that perhaps many of us did not have at the time.
Considering that the digital version of Spiderman: No Way Home (Last year's biggest movie event) has just been released, I thought it would be interesting to apply the same treatment.
Another factor that buoyed me considerably was that Marvel and Sony finally decided to drop the mystery behind the obvious reveal in the second half of the film: Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are here, starting to use them in all sorts of promotional material and allowing us to talk spoilers. with a little more ease.
Apart from this, I don't think I have much more to say about it, at least before starting my analysis, everyone already knows that the story in Spiderman No Way Home is not only a direct sequel to Homecoming and Far From Home, but also serves as a another step in the giant project that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, closing an apparent trilogy and developing several of the conflicts that have been previously established both in the individual Spider-Man films and in their respective crossovers.
Act 1. Marvel Cinematic Disaster
It is not a secret that for two years I have felt quite disappointed with the state of the MCU, since Endgame closed the narrative arcs of most of the original Avengers I have felt a progressive loss of interest in Marvel stories, Far From Home It was fun but mediocre, I painlessly listed Black Widow as the worst movie of 2021, and while Shang-Chi was entertaining, it failed when it came to getting me excited about the current state of this expanded universe.
The exclusive Disney plus series, on the other hand, offered interesting premises but were highly affected by their episodic format, although there were brilliant exceptions such as Wandavision or Loki.
Understanding this situation, it was quite obvious that Spiderman No Way Home would be a hit, not so much because of the merits of the two previous films under the command of Jon Watts, but because of the ambitious break that it meant to the dynamic that the MCU had established from the start. 2019. The negative side? Well, No Way Home had various tasks to accomplish and it would hardly succeed.
I don't know if you have forgotten it, but despite its mistakes, Far From Home was in charge of establishing one of the best cliffhangers in the entire history of the MCU: Introducing Jonah Jameson played again by the excellent JK Simons and showing us that Mysterio revealed to everyone the true identity of Spider-Man.
The closing of far from home was so good that it made us all collectively feel that it was a decent movie, excited by the narrative possibilities that these events would present in the future.
The presence of Simons was particularly shocking, but many at the time understood the situation as Marvel opening up to the possibility of bringing in actors from "other Spiderman" repeating their roles, something that also seemed brilliant to me.
The task of bringing the "multiverse" as a concept fell to Wandavision a year or so later, albeit in an abstract way. Since that day my thoughts have been the same: it's an exciting idea, yes, but it also involves breaking the consistency of the MCU by bringing films and series into canon that weren't originally conceived for this purpose.
The months passed, the trailers started pouring in and after seeing Alfred Molina and Willem Dafoe reprise their antagonistic roles from the old Raimi trilogy it was pretty obvious what would happen next: the fucking Spider-Verse is here whether we like it or not.
Act. 2 Marvel is an amusement park
Although for many Marvel fans there is nothing more wrong than Scorsese saying that these movies are not "real cinema", it is a quite poignant statement in which I have found a very interesting vision regarding the general operation of the MCU and by extension the superhero movies in general.
The thing is, I don't feel that No Way Home needs to be a "good movie" to be emotional, considering that it draws not only on the 20+ movies that preceded it in the MCU, but on all the live-action versions apart from Tom Holland. that we have seen on the big screen. Why do I say this? because I feel like that's why I liked No Way Home but I don't find it hard to understand that it's actually a bad movie.
If the Far From Home cliffhanger established the possibility of an intimate story where Peter had to deal with the consequences of his secret identity being revealed to the whole world (Story that certainly had the potential to be approached with a more serious tone than usual) in the end we get a slightly louder story, with a light start and an obsessive desire to progressively escalate the conflict (Albeit unnecessary) to give us the obvious climax.
Revisiting Far From Home, it is quite evident that this is a film that wants to take us from its beginning point to its end without delicately evaluating the creative decisions that were made.
What is the finality? Meeting the 3 Spiderman together, how are we going to get it? breaking the evolution that Peter has had as a character in all these years to make him make a stupid mistake that will end up costing Dr.Strange the rupture of the multiverse.
The thing is, having seen the movie in theaters, as well as revisiting several of the more prominent scenes on YouTube a couple of times, it's pretty clear that when the excitement over Tobey and Andrew's appearance wears off, the value of the work in general is quite scarce, especially if we consider that the emotional moments, although they are effective, are quite distant from each other.
Although by the standards of its format it is a fairly "short" film (2 and a half hours long), No Way Home feels much heavier than other major MCU events such as Infinity War or Endgame, its structure is lousy and this penalties is offset by a great last 20 minutes.
In No Way Home we watch as Peter is overwhelmed by the revelation that he is Spider-Man in the least rational way possible, asking Dr. Strange to play with the rules of time and space so that he makes everyone forget that he was spiderman.
This could spark a whole debate about the illogicality of a superhero's real identity having value in the MCU, but even accepting as a major premise that Quentin Beck had some sort of legitimacy to his word, it's absurd that Peter didn't seek other help to solve this problem.
In order to enjoy No Way Home, you have to give in from minute 1, totally ignoring that a good portion of its events follow a logical sequence, but incoherent when put under the magnifying glass of the extended universe.
Act. 3 Into the Spider-Verse
Although it is the emotional core of the entire film, it is surprising the negligence with which the arrival of the ancient spider-man in Holland's universe was handled, being totally constructed as if it were a classic sitcom where the reactions of the audience are part of the rhythm of the footage, resounding in our subconscious the words of acid Scorsese once again.
Considering the large number of elements that are included: characters, winks, references... it is quite respectable that such a substantial film ends up working, although as a sacrifice several of these inclusions must be handled with an uncomfortable speed.
Not everything is negative in this area, No Way Home constantly builds on the prior knowledge we have of all the villains that star in it, providing unexpected complexity in a short time.
Leaving aside the impact of the entrance of the old spidey, objectively these moments do not have much to offer, being overshadowed by other events within the MCU that occurred with much more elegance. However, when we have them together it is clear that this was what No way Home had wanted to be all along.
Act. 4 The friendly neighbor spiderman
Although at the moment I seem to hate No Way Home with all my heart, it is important to highlight that it is a film that has many successes, especially when it leaves behind the events that start the entire conflict of the film.
I generally appreciate what Holland does with the character and I feel that this time he had the opportunity to deliver the best performance of him, both as Peter and as Spider-Man.
No Way Home decides to retroactively alter the thematic purpose of Homecoming and Far From Home, hinting that the entire trilogy serves as a kind of "origin story" that will later end up in a trilogy, although I hate that this was an idea applied on the fly We can't deny that it's a very clever way of allowing Spiderman to evolve, learning not only from his own mistakes but from his counterparts in other universes.
It's a bit offensive to call it "a love letter to the character" when it has so many flaws, but neither do we turn a blind eye to its virtues, those few moments where it perfectly understands the myth of the hero and executes it so neatly.
The use of Aunt May as the new Uncle Ben, for example, defies our archaic expectations and shows a lot of courage to take the life of a character that over the years has earned our empathy and is a small one.
A sample of the true potential that the MCU has when it decides to build a solid narrative over time.
No Way Home also serves as a container to conclude many plot points that in the Raimi trilogy and the Amazing series had been left up in the air, through throw away lines that do not fulfill a very clear purpose in this film in isolation. but that complement the idea of these heroes existing many years after we had the opportunity to see them on screen.
This last one I mentioned in a virtual aspect when trying to understand why No Way Home works even though its flaws are plentiful: it gives up its own artistic integrity in exchange for a gimmicky spectacle.
Act. 5 Spiderman Beyond
When people talk about this movie as the best Spider-Man movie to date it's hard to ignore that it's a statement that may be very silly on the surface but progressively makes sense when you analyze it in an abstract sense.
You see, No Way Home is a great movie, it is in unconventional terms, yes, but it is undeniable that its success is based on many factors of real value that come together to provide a unique and exciting experience.
What many fail to understand is that all these factors have been taken from the previous movies, which regardless of their quality adjusted all the pieces on this chessboard to provide the definitive story of spiderman, and what's the problem? Well, perhaps the definitive story, but it is far from the last.
Since the premiere of Infinity War in 2018 It has been quite evident that the scale of the MCU has increased in exaggerated proportions, this environmental factor that seems to be ignored by slightly more isolated tapes such as The Eternals or Shang Chi ends up fatally affecting the micro -sagas that were so deeply embedded in this expansive narrative, like our beloved Spidey.
The end of No Way Home is great, it knows how to create a new status quo that reduces Peter Parker to his most essential factors (even if it means that he is miserable) and synthesizes all the knowledge acquired by his arachnid allies in a new home-made suit. But the MCU is in a weird place...
I don't want to be pessimistic, although my interest has faded over time I'll probably do my best to be first in line when it's time to buy tickets for Spiderman 4 in a couple of years, but at the same time I feel cheated, manipulated by a mediocre film that only managed to excite me because in objective terms it was almost impossible for it not to.
Marvel is into a rock and a hard place, and while they laid the groundwork for a smaller story in the future, seeing the patterns in their behavior probably isn't what we're going for.
Act. 6 Our endgame
I stand firm on this, No Way Home is a painfully correct film, it represents that we live in a time where everything is coldly calculated and there is no longer any margin of error, but in return we sacrifice possible sparks of creativity. It is ironic that the same world that, taking risks, gave us classics like Spiderman 2, The Dark Knight or Iron Man, progressively created the perfect set of conditions to succeed like them without having to put anything at stake.
I personally decide to enjoy it regardless and you can do the same, it's just fun trying to analyze certain specific aspects of it.

Tomando en consideración que se acaba de estrenar la versión digital de Spiderman: No Way Home (El evento cinematográfico más grande del año pasado) pensé que sería interesante aplicarle el mismo tratamiento.
Otro factor que me impulsó considerablemente fue que Marvel y Sony finalmente decidieron abandonar el misterio detrás de la obvia revelación a la segunda mitad del filme: Tobey Maguire y Andrew Garfield están aquí, empezando a utilizarlos en todo tipo de material promocional y permitiendonos hablar usando spoilers con un poco de más soltura.
Aparte de esto creo que no tengo mucho más que decir al respecto, al menos antes de empezar mi análisis, ya todos saben la historia: Spiderman No Way Home no solo es una secuela directa de Homecoming y Far From Home, sino que sirve como un escalón más en el gigante proyecto que es el universo cinematográfico de Marvel, cerrando una aparente trilogía y desarrollando varios de los conflictos que se han establecido previamente tanto en los filmes individuales de Spider-Man como en sus respectivos crossovers.
Act 1. Marvel Cinematic Disaster
No es un secreto que desde hace dos años me he sentido bastante decepcionado con el estado del MCU, desde que Endgame cerró los arcos narrativos de la mayoría de los Avengers originales he sentido una perdida progresiva de interés en las historias de Marvel, Far From Home fue divertida pero mediocre, catalogué sin dolor Black Widow como la peor película del 2021 y aunque Shang-Chi fue entretenida fracasaba cuando se trataba de emocionarme por el estado actual de este universo expandido.
Las series exclusivas de Disney plus, por otro lado, brindaban premisas interesantes pero se veían altamente afectadas por su formato episodico, aunque hubiesen excepciones brillantes como Wandavision o Loki.
Entendiendo está situación resultaba bastante obvio que Spiderman No Way Home sería un hit, no tanto por los méritos propios de las dos películas anteriores bajo el mando de Jon Watts, sino por la ambiciosa ruptura que significaba a la dinámica que el MCU había establecido desde el 2019. ¿El lado negativo? Bueno, No Way Home tenía diversas tareas por cumplir y difícilmente triunfaria.
No sé si ustedes lo habrán olvidado pero a pesar de sus error Far From Home se encargaba de establecer uno de los mejores cliffhangers en toda la historia del MCU: Introduciendo a Jonah Jameson interpretado otra vez por el excelente J.K Simons y mostrándonos que Mysterio reveló a todo el mundo la verdadera identidad de Spider-Man.
El cierre de far from home era tan bueno que hizo que todos colectivamente sintieramos que era una película decente, emocionados por las posibilidades narrativas que estos eventos supondrían en el futuro.

Desde ese día mis pensamientos han Sido los mismos: es una idea emocionante, si, pero también implica romper la consistencia del MCU trayendo al canon filmes y series que no fueron concebidas originalmente con este propósito.
Los meses pasaron, los trailers empezaron a llover y luego de ver a Alfred Molina y a Willem Dafoe repitiendo sus papeles antagonicos de la antigua trilogía de Raimi era bastante obvio lo que ocurrirá después: el puto Spider-Verse está aquí nos guste o no.
Act. 2 The Marvel amusement park
Aunque para muchos de los seguidores de Marvel no existe nada más errado que Scorsese diciendo que estás películas no son "cine real", es un statement bastante punzante en el que he encontrado una visión muy interesante respecto al funcionamiento general del MCU y por extensión el cine de superhéroes en general.
La cosa es que no siento que No Way Home necesite ser una "buena película" para emocionar, considerando que se sustenta no solo en las más de 20 películas que le anteceden en el MCU, sino a todos las versiones live action aparte de Tom Holland que hemos visto en la gran pantalla. ¿Por qué digo esto? porque siento que es la razón por la cual me gustó No Way Home pero no encuentro difícil comprender que en realidad es una mala película.
Si el cliffhanger de Far From Home establecía la posibilidad de una íntima historia en dónde Peter debía lidiar con las consecuencias de su identidad secreta siendo revelada ante todo el mundo (Historia que por cierto tenía el potencial de abordarse con un tono más serio de lo acostumbrado) al final recibimos una historia un poco más ruidosa, con un arranque ligero y un afán obsesivo por escalar progresivamente el conflicto (Aunque sea innecesario) para brindarnos el obvio climax.
Revisitando Far From Home es bastante evidente que es un filme que quiere llevarnos desde su punto inicial hasta el final sin evaluar con delicadeza las decisiones creativas que se tomaron.
¿Cuál es la finalidad? Encontrarnos con los 3 Spiderman juntos, ¿Cómo lo vamos a obtener? rompiendo la evolución que Peter ha tenido como personaje en todos estos años para hacerle cometer un error estúpido que va a terminar costandole a Dr.Strange la ruptura del multiverso.
La cuestión es que luego de haber visto la película en cines, así como haber revisitado varias de las escenas más prominentes en Youtube un par de veces, es muy evidente que cuando la emoción por la aparición de Tobey y Andrew se desinfla, el valor de la obra en general es bastante escaso, especialmente si consideramos que los momentos emotivos, aunque son efectivos, se encuentra bastante distantes entre si.
Aunque para los estándares de su formato es una película bastante "corta" (con 2 horas y media de duración) No Way Home se siente mucho más pesada que otros grandes eventos del MCU como Infinity War o Endgame, su estructura es pesima y esto a penas se ve compensado por unos últimos 20 minutos geniales.
En No Way Home observamos como Peter se ve agobiado por la salida a la luz de la relevación de que es Spiderman de la forma menos racional posible, pidiéndole a Dr. Strange que juguete con las reglas del tiempo y el espacio para que haga que todos olviden que el era spiderman.
Esto podría desatar todo un debate sobre la falta de lógica que tiene que la identidad real de un superhéroe tenga valor en el MCU, pero incluso aceptando como premisa mayor que Quentin Beck tenía algún tipo de legitimidad en su palabra, es absurdo que Peter no buscara otro tipo de ayuda para solucionar este problema.
Para poder disfrutar de No Way Home debe darse el brazo a torcer desde el minuto 1, ignorando totalmente que una buena porción de sus hechos siguen una secuencia lógica entre si, pero incoherente cuando se pone bajo la lupa del universo extendido.
Act. 3 Into the Spider-Verse
Aunque se trata del núcleo emocional de todo la película es sorprendente la negligencia con la que se manejó la llegada de los spiderman antiguos al universo de Holland, construyéndose totalmente como si se tratase de una sitcom clásica en dónde las reacciones de la audiencia son parte del ritmo del metraje, resonando en nuestros subconscientes las palabras del ácido Scorsese una vez más.
Considerando la gran cantidad de elementos que se incluyen: personajes, guiños, referencias... es bastante respetable que una película tan sustanciosa termine funcionando, aunque como sacrificio varias de estas inclusiones deben ser manejadas con una rapidez incómoda.
No todo es negativo en este área, No Way Home se apoya constamente en los conocimientos previos que tenemos de todos los villanos que la protagonizan, brindando complejidad inesperada en poco tiempo.
Dejando de lado el impacto que supone la entrada en escena de los viejos spidey, objetivamente estos momentos no tienen gran cosa que ofrecer, viéndose opacados ante otros eventos dentro del MCU que se ocurrían con mucha más elegancia. No obstante, cuando ya los tenemos juntos es evidente que esto era lo que No way Home había querido ser todo el tiempo.
Act. 4 The friendly neighbor spiderman
Aunque de momento aparento odiar No Way Home con todo mi corazón es importante resaltar que es una película que cuenta con bastantes aciertos, especialmente cuando deja atrás los eventos que le dan inicio a todo el conflicto de la película.
Generalmente aprecio lo que hace Holland con el personaje y siento que esta vez tuvo la oportunidad de entregar su mejor performance, tanto como Peter como siendo Spiderman.
No Way Home decide alterar retroactivamente la finalidad temática de Homecoming y Far From Home, dándonos a entender que toda la trilogía sirve como una suerte de "origin story" que posteriormente terminará en una trilogía, aunque detesto que está fuese una idea aplicada sobre la marcha no podemos negar que es una forma muy hábil de permitir que Spiderman evolucione, aprendiendo no solo de sus propios errores sino de sus contrapartes en otros universos.
Es un poco ofensivo llamarla "una carta de amor al personaje" cuando cuenta con tantos defectos, pero tampoco hacernos los de la vista gorda con sus virtudes, esos escasos momentos en dónde entiende perfectamente el mito del héroe y lo ejecuta de forma tan prolija.
El uso de la Tía May como el nuevo tío Ben, por ejemplo, desafía nuestras arcaicas expectativas y demuestra muchísimo valor para quitarle la vida a un personaje que a lo largo de los años se ha ganado nuestra empatía y es uno pequeña muestra del verdadero potencial que tiene el MCU cuando decide construir narrativa sólida a través del tiempo.
No Way Home también sirve como recipiente para dar conclusión a muchos plot points que en la trilogía de Raimi y la serie Amazing habían quedado en el aire, por medio de throw away lines que no cumplen un propósito muy claro en esta película de forma aislada, pero que complementan la idea de estos héroes existiendo muchos años después de que tuviéramos la oportunidad de verles en pantalla.
Esto último que mencioné en un aspecto vitual cuando tratamos de entender por qué No Way Home funciona aunque sus defectos sean abundantes: renuncia a su propia integridad artística a cambio de un espectáculo efectista.
Act. 5 Spiderman Beyond
Cuando la gente habla de esta película como la mejor obra de spiderman que se ha hecho hasta la fecha es difícil ignorar que se trata de un statement que puede ser muy tonto en la superficie pero que progresivamente va tomando sentido cuando lo analizamos en un sentido abstracto.
Verán, No Way Home es una película grandiosa, lo es en terminos poco convencionales, si, pero es innegable que su exito se encuentra sustentado en muchos factores de valor real que se juntan para brindar una experiencia única y emocionante.
Lo que muchos fracasan en entender es que todos esos factores se han tomado de las películas previas, las cuales independientemente de su calidad ajustaron todas las piezas en este tablero de ajedred para brindar la historia definitiva de spiderman, ¿Y cuál es el problema? Bueno, quizá la historia definitiva, pero dista de ser la última.
Desde el estreno de Infinity War en el 2018 ha Sido bastante evidente que la escala del MCU ha aumentado en proporciones exageradas, este factor ambiental que parece ser ignorado por cintas un poco más aisladas como The Eternals o Shang Chi termina afectando de forma letal las micro-sagas que estaban tan profundamente clavadas en esta narrativa expansiva, como nuestro querido Spidey.
El final de No Way Home es estupendo, sabe crear un nuevo status quo que reduce a Peter Parker a sus factores más esenciales (Aunque implique que sea miserable) y sintetiza en un nuevo traje home-made todo los conocimientos adquiridos por sus aliados arácnidos. Pero el MCU está en un lugar rarisimo...
No quiero ser pesimista, aunque mi interez se ha diluido con el tiempo probablemente hare lo posible por ser el primero en la fila cuando se la hora de comprar los tickets para Spiderman 4 en un par de años, pero al mismo tiempo me siento engañado, manipulado por una cinta mediocre que solo logró emocionarme porque en términos objetivos era casi imposible que no lo hiciera.
Marvel está dentro de la espada y la pared, y aunque establecieron las bases para una historia más pequeña en el futuro, viendo los patrones en sus comportamiento probablemente eso no sea lo que vamos.
Act. 6 Our endgame
Me mantengo firme al respecto, No Way Home es una película dolorsamente correcta, representa que vivimos en una época en dónde todo está fríamente calculado y ya no existe margen de error, pero a cambio sacrificamos posibles chispas de creatividad. Es irónico que el mismo mundo que arriesgándose nos dió clásicos como Spiderman 2, The Dark Knight o Iron Man, progresivamente creo el set de condiciones perfectas para triunfar como ellas sin tener que poner nada en juego.
Yo personalmente decido disfrutarla a pesar de todo y ustedes pueden hacer lo mismo, solo es divertido tratar de analizar ciertos aspectos específicos de ella.
