Spiderman - No Way Home (2021) review: SPOILERS, be careful.

Disclaimer: This post assumes that you have seen Spiderman No Way Home so spoilers are quite likely, not because I have direct intentions to reveal specific aspects of the film, but because I feel that it will be inevitable to develop several of my ideas.

Today, Sunday, December 19, 2021, after a couple of days struggling on the internet to avoid spoilers and after failing in my mission to get tickets for the opening day, I managed to see what (debatably) has been one of the biggest events un cinema of the century, so I'd like to start with a fairly simple question: Did it meet my expectations?

No Way Home is a film that lives within a bitter reality: meeting the expectations that it sowed in people, a task that ends up completing although from a narrative point of view the cost is high.

Of course, it was everything we expected: Andrew and Tobey are here, balancing all the fan service a little within a suffering plot to bring them back effectively, beyond that I would be lying if I told you that it is not surprisingly emotional, their appearance serves no only to quench our fan thirst but to close arcs that had not healed properly when it was needed (Honorable mention to Andrew Garfield who has a couple of moments to show off).

No Way Home comprises a great accumulation of intelligent decisions that are cartoonish in nature but know how to play with all the elements that have surrounded the friendly neighbor Spiderman since his conception, a love letter where each box is checked appropriately.

We have Willem Dafoe playing Norman Obsorn as the main villain in what could be described as a brilliant move that appeals to our silly nostalgia, putting all the spotlight on him and unleashing Sam Raimi's brilliant creation at the turn of the millennium. We have the highly anticipated return of Charlie Coxx in the role of Daredevil in a short cameo and the typical MCU Easter eggs that are already an institution by themselves.

No Way Home has a disastrous structure and inconsistent tone, plus none of these flaws spoil the overall experience - a poignant work that brings us all together as arachnid lovers.

Is it the best movie of the character? I don't think so, films like Spider-Verse, the Raimi sequel or Homecoming itself feel much more consistent with what this title implies. If anything, No Way Home is a beautiful celebration of Spiderman, the culmination of many childhood fantasies that added to a couple of multi-million dollar contracts became one of the most solid spectacles that we can see in front of a screen while we live.

I laughed, I shed a couple of tears, I was afraid… No Way Home knew how to give us everything we wanted, although as I said previously: it was destined to structurally falter.

Honestly, I am not anxious about the future, I only feel fullness for what we live in the present: A film that respected all those characters that I grew up with and that knew how to make them share with those more recent who came to replace them.

Disclaimer: Este post da por hecho que has visto Spiderman No Way Home así que los spoilers son bastante probables, no porque tenga intenciones directas de revelar aspectos específicos del filme, sino porque siento que será inevitable para desarrollar varias de mis ideas.

Hoy, domingo 19 de diciembre del 2021, luego de un par de días batallando en internet para evitar los spoilers y tras fracasar en mi misión de conseguir entradas para el día del estreno, logré ver lo que (Debatiblemente) viene siendo uno de los eventos cinematográficos más grandes de todo el siglo, así que me gustaría partir con una pregunta bastante simple: ¿Cumplió con mis expectativas?

No Way Home es una película que vive dentro de una amarga realidad: cumplir con las propias expectativas que sembró en la gente, una tarea que termina completando aunque desde un punto de vista narrativo el costo sea elevado.

Por supuesto, era todo lo que esperábamos: Andrew y Tobey están aquí, balanceando un poco todo el fan service dentro de una trama que sufre para regresarlos efectivamente, más allá de eso mentiría si les digo que no es sorprendentemente emotivo, su aparición sirve no solo para saciar nuestra sed de fans sino para cerrar arcos arguméntales que no habían sanado apropiadamente cuando correspondía (Mención honorífica a Andrew Garfield quien tiene un par de momentos para lucirse).

No Way Home comprende un gran cúmulo de decisiones inteligentes y de naturaleza caricaturesca que saben jugar con todos los elementos que han rodeado al amigable vecino Spiderman desde su Concepción, una carta de amor en donde cada casilla se checkea apropiadamente.

Tenemos a Willem Dafoe interpretando a Norman Obsorn como villano principal en lo que podría describirse como una movida brillante que apela a nuestra tonta nostalgia, poniendo todos los reflectores sobre el y dándole riendas sueltas a la brillante creación que tuvo Sam Raimi a principios del milenio. Tenemos el muy esperado regreso de Charlie Coxx en el rol de Daredevil en un breve cameo y los típicos guiños MCU que ya son toda una institución de por si.

No Way Home tiene una estructura desastrosa y un tono inconsistente, más ninguno de estos defectos arruina la experiencia general: una obra conmovedora que nos reúne a todos como amantes del arácnido.

¿Es la mejor película del personaje? No lo creo, cintas como Spider-Verse, la secuela de Raimi o la propia Homecoming se sienten mucho más coherentes con lo que implica este título. Si acaso, No Way Home es una hermosa celebración a Spiderman, la culminación de muchas fantasías infantiles que sumadas a un par de contratos multimillonarios devinieron en uno de los espectáculos más sólidos que podremos ver frente a una pantalla mientras tengamos vida.

Reí, boté un par de lagrimas, tuve miedo… No Way Home supo entregarnos todo lo que queríamos, aunque como dije previamente: estaba destinada a tambalearse estructuralmente.

Honestamente no estoy ansioso por el futuro, solo siento plenitud por lo que vivimos en el presente: Un film que respetó a todos esos personajes con los que crecí y que supo hacerlos compartir con aquellos más recientes que vinieron a reemplazarlos.
