Taking into account that it was recently Star Wars day (May the Fourth) it seemed relevant to me to talk about what is probably my favorite piece of the entire franchise: Episode III - Revenge of The Sith.
Since Disney acquired its intellectual property with all that it entails, it has been in charge of taking advantage of it (with all the reason in the world) producing not only more movies, but also video games and television series, both animated and live action, nurturing the Skywalker saga and reconstructing the expanded universe of Star Wars in general... this large number of projects linked to the blessed son of George Lucas makes choosing a favorite over the others a titanic task and there is hardly a definitive answer, it is a personal question and there are a series of generational and social factors coexisting with our own tastes that can affect it.
Beyond the recent love acquired by society in general for the prequel trilogy, they are quite difficult films to approach, not only because of their intrinsic density but also because of the large number of particularities that characterize the moment they were released and the obvious dichotomy between the vision of Lucas and the most passionate fans when it comes to "What is Star Wars and why it works", in the case of Revenge of the Sith these potholes have ended up playing in its favor over the years, receiving meaning not only to itself, but to the two episodes that will occur before within the same sequels.
Unlike A Phantom Menace of Attack of The Clones, Revenge of The Sith is a film that knows how to balance its political and diplomatic aspects much more comfortably with the space adventure that Star Wars entailed in the 70s, presenting us with a story that we can follow with great ease and that is responsible for making sense of many things that happened before and will happen later in the canon.
Even if we leave aside its technical aspects and one of the most epochal soundtracks to have been produced in the entire series, Episode III is a piece that is tragic, exciting and devastating in almost equal amounts, bringing Obi's story to a climax. -Wan and Anakin Skywalker with undeniable plot strength.
This does not mean that it is perfect, of course, in fact I would dare to say that more recent films like Rogue One or Force Awakens itself have fewer objective errors, but the years have kept Revenge of the Sith away in the best way and between series as brilliant as The Clone Wars or The Bad Batch there has been a retroactive thematic improvement.
The execution of Order 66, the fall of the Republic, and Anakin Skywalker's transition into the mantle of Darth Vader is surely one of the most substantial containers of events that totally shaped the Star Wars universe and progressively more and more fans. seems to appreciate it.
Tomando en cuenta que recientemente fue el día de Star Wars (May the Fourth) me pareció pertinente hablar sobre la cual es probablemente mi pieza favorita de toda la franquicia: El episodio III - Revenge of The Sith.
Desde que Disney adquirió está propiedad intelectual con todo lo que conlleva se ha encargado de sacarle provecho (Con toda la razón del mundo) produciendo no solo más películas, sino videojuegos y series de televisión tanto animadas como live action, nutriendo la saga de Skywalker y el reconstruyendo el universo expandido de Star Wars en general... esta gran cantidad de proyectos vinculados al hijo bendito de George Lucas hacen que escoger un favorito frente a los demás sea una tarea titánica y difícilmente exista una respuesta definitiva, es una cuestión personal y hay una serie de factores generacionales y sociales coexistiendo con nuestros propios gustos que pueden afectarla.
Más allá del reciente amor adquirido por la trilogía de las precuelas por parte de la sociedad en general, son filmes bastante difíciles de abordar, no solo por su densidad intrínseca sino por la gran cantidad de particularidades que caracterizan el momento en que se estrenaron y la dicotomía obvia entre la visión de Lucas y los admiradores más apasionados cuando se trata de "Qué es Star Wars y por qué funciona", en el caso de Revenge of The Sith estos baches han terminado jugando a su favor con el paso de los años, dándole sentido no solo a si misma, sino a los dos episodios que se produjeron antes dentro de las mismas secuelas.
A diferencia de A Phantom Menace of Attack of The Clones, Revenge of The Sith es un film que sabe balancear con mucha más comodidad sus aspectos políticos y diplomáticos con la aventura espacial que suponía Star Wars en los años 70, presentándonos una historia que podemos seguir con mucha falicidad y que se encarga de darle sentido a muchas cosas que dentro del canon ocurrieron antes y ocurrirán después.
Incluso si dejamos a un lado sus aspectos tecnicos y una de las bandas sonoras más épocas que se han producido en toda la serie, el Episodio III es una pieza trágica, emocionante y devastadora en cantidades casi iguales, que lleva al climax la historia de Obi-Wan y Anakin Skywalker con una solidez argumental innegable .
Esto no quiere decir que sea perfecta, por su puesto, de hecho me atrevería a decir que filmes más recientes como Rogue One o la mismísima Force Awakens cuentan con menos errores objetivos, pero los años han ido alejando Revenge of The Sith de la mejor manera y entre series tan brillantes como The Clone Wars o The Bad Batch ha habido una mejora temática retroactiva.
La ejecución de la orden 66, la caída de la República y la transición de Anakin Skywalker hacia el manto de Darth Vader convierten esta obra en uno de los contenedores más sustanciales de eventos que moldearon totalmente el universo de Star Wars y progresivamente más y más admiradores parecen apreciarla.
