Although I did not grow up with Ninja Turtles, it has always been inevitable to be surrounded by their legacy: animated series, movies, action figures, comics and video games are just some of the formats that the brilliant creation of Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman has embraced. adapted, a mainstay of popular culture that has proven flexible enough to alter its style and substance without abandoning its essence.
This flexibility is the greatest virtue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Mutant Mayhem, an animated film directed by Jeff Roge and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, which, clearly inspired by the animation renaissance that we are experiencing in the midst of jewels like Across the Spiderverse or Puss in Boots The Last Wish, take advantage of all the possibilities of the medium to bring Donatello, Michaelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo to life.
Most iterations of the turtles could always fall on either end of a spectrum depending on how serious or immature they are. In the case of Mutant Mayhem we have a predominantly childish approach, but capable of being taken seriously enough so that more "mature" fans don't feel alienated.
This is not only limited to the narrative rhythm of the film and its dialogues, but also upsets all the aesthetic and thematic elements of New York, the city where everything takes place: a dirty, messy, but incredibly inspirational place.
Its plot is quite simple, we know that turtles are the product of experiments that transformed them into mutants, and these same experiments have affected other animals...
As revenge due to the multiple abuses and discrimination they have suffered throughout their lives, Super-Fly (Yes, a mutant fly), decides to start a plan to end humanity, creating a new society where all their members are the previously despised mutants.
The turtles, who have spent their entire lives hiding in the sewers, and have barely had the opportunity to have contact with the outside world, see this as an opportunity to stop Super-Fly, and thus, endear themselves to the citizens of New York. .
I like this premise because despite its simplicity, it is the perfect pretext to put our protagonists in a morally complex situation considering that, like Super-Fly and his friends, they too have been constantly despised.
However, the greatest virtue of Mutant Mayhem is the sincerity with which it portrays all its characters, and, despite the very short amount of time we have with each of them, it knows how to delineate their personalities organically very well: their fears, desires, and interests, the reason why they are an effective team, and why Master Splinter is overprotective of them.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a film that overflows with creativity, it is directed with great agility, it has a great soundtrack and it has a slightly dirtier and more aggressive style of humor than expected, a quite entertaining film that has something to offer to everyone.

En el caso de Mutant Mayhem tenemos un acercamiento predominantemente infantil, pero capaz de tomarse con suficientemente seriedad como para que aquellos fanáticos más "maduros" no se sientan alineados.
Esto no solo se limita al ritmo narrativo de la película y sus diálogos, sino que trastoca todos los elementos estéticos y temáticos de New York, la ciudad en la que la desarrolla todo: un lugar sucio, desprolijo, pero increíblemente inspiracional.
Su trama es bastante simple, sabemos que las tortugas son producto de unos experimentos que las transformaron en mutantes, y estos mismos experimentos han afectado a otros animales...
Cómo venganza debido a los múltiples abusos y la discriminación que han sufrido a lo largo de todas sus vidas, Super-Fly (Si, una mosca mutante), decide comenzar un plan para acabar con la humanidad, creando una nueva sociedad en dónde todos sus miembros sean los mutantes anteriormente despreciados.
Las tortugas, quienes han pasado todas sus vidas escondidas en las cloacas, y a mipenas han tenido la oportunidad de tener contacto con el mundo exterior, ven esto como una oportunidad para detener a Super-Fly, y así, ganarse el cariño de los ciudadanos neoyorquinos.
Me gusta esta premisa porque a pesar de su sencillez, es el pretexto perfecto para poner a nuestros protagonistas en una situación moralmente compleja considerando que al igual que Super-Fly y sus amigos ellos también han Sido constamente despreciados.
No obstante, la mayor virtud de Mutant Mayhem es la sinceridad con la que retrata a todos sus personajes, y, a pesar de la cantidad de tiempo tan corta que tenemos con cada uno de ellos, sabe delinear muy bien sus personalidades de forma orgánica: sus miedos, deseos e intereses, la razón por la que son un equipo efectivo y por qué el maestro Splinter los proteje excesivamente.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles es una película que rebosa creatividad, está dirigida con muchisima agilidad, tiene una banda sonora estupenda y cuenta con un estilo de humor un poco más sucia y agresiva de lo esperado, una película bastante entretenida que tiene algo que ofrecerle a todos.
