The Boss Baby - Family Business (2021) review: Exactly what I expected.

I finally decided last night to watch the sequel Boss Baby and it's one of those movies that delivers exactly what you expect, for better and for worse. Released on March 24, 2021 and currently available on Peacock, this is a correct play with a fun premise that does little to outdo itself.

Dreamworks gives us a fairly correct animation from the technical but with an extremely generic and boring style, it looks like another dozen more children's films, the designs of the characters that rarely insist on trying something other than "forced cuteness" are attractive but forgettable.

It does not contribute that the beginning of the film is so accelerated, although it is more a problem of execution than of concept - Look at other films like The Mitchells VS The Machines- they land this idea better. It's easy to get stunned by its pacing in a good portion of the film and nothing ever gets properly seated.

Perhaps the best aspect of the film is its plot, not because it is extremely original, but because at the thematic level there is a moving message.

Unlike the first part of Boss Baby here the main focus is not on the Boss Baby himself - Played by the great Alec Baldwin and the main attraction of the franchise - but on his older brother Ted - Played by Jimmy Kimmel - who already He grew up and has his own family with two children.

The conflict in the movie is set in motion when Ted observes that he is having trouble connecting with his daughter as before and after a villain appears - Quite uninteresting, I must admit - both Ted and the Boss Baby who also grew up must take a special potion developed by Baby Corp that will turn them back into babies.

Here I criticize not only the lousy villain (Of which I will not speak much to spoil whoever wants to see the film) but the puppets that the film script makes to make Boss Baby and Ted become children again, although on paper it ends up making them the second portion of the feature film is effective, it shows little intention of experimenting - playing it safe -.

Not everything is bad, as I have been saying, although the idea of ​​making a father reconnect with his daughter by being turned into a Child is not the coolest in the world (He seems to drink a lot of Back to The future but with a simpler twist) perhaps it is the best of the movie, moving and entertaining in almost equal amounts.

The Boss Baby: Family Business is functional and I know that the little ones in the house will enjoy it, even for some older ones it must be admitted that it is attractive to see Alec Baldwin again in the role. On the other hand, there are many ideas that do not land well, the humor has no focus and the rhythm is quite disconcerting, the villain is boring and the good moments are always interrupted by a sub-plot that interests me less.

I recommend it? Yes, for those who know exactly what they will see, no one here seeks to reinvent the rules of narrative and break the limits of what is possible with computer animation. The Boss Baby: Family Business is - as I said before - exactly what I expected.

Anoche decidí finalmente ponerme a ver la secuela Boss Baby y es una de esas películas que otorgan exactamente lo que uno espera, para bien y para mal. Estrenada el 24 de marzo de 2021 y disponible actualmente en Peacock, se trata de una obra correcta con una premisa divertida que hace poco por superarse a sí misma.

Dreamworks nos da una animación bastante correcta desde lo técnico pero con un estilo extremadamente genérico y aburrido, luce como otra docena más de películas infantiles, los diseños de los personajes que rara vez se empeñan en intentar algo que no sea “lindura forzada” son atractivos pero olvidables.

No contribuye que el inicio del filme sea tan acelerado, aunque es un problema más de ejecución que de concepto - Miren que otras películas como The Mitchells VS The Machines- aterrizan mejor esta idea. Es fácil quedar aturdido por su ritmo en una buena porción del filme y nunca nada logra asentar de forma apropiada.

Quizá el mejor aspecto de la cinta sea su argumento, no porque resulte extremadamente original, sino porque a nivel temático hay un mensaje conmovedor.

A diferencia de la primera parte de Boss Baby aquí el foco principal no está sobre el Boss Baby en si - Interpretado por el gran Alec Baldwin y el atractivo principal de la franquicia - sino sobre su hermano mayor Ted - Interpretado por Jimmy Kimmel - quien ya creció y tiene su propia familia con dos hijos.

El conflicto de la película se pone en movimiento cuando Ted observa que está teniendo problemas para conectar con su hija como antes y luego de la aparición de un villano - Bastante poco interesante, debo admitir - tanto Ted como el Boss Baby que también creció deben tomar una poción especial desarrollada por Baby Corp que los volverá a convertir en bebés.

Aquí critico no solo el pésimo villano (Del que no hablaré mucho para spoilear a quien desee ver la película) sino las marionetas que hace el guion de la película para hacer que Boss Baby y Ted vuelvan a ser niños, aunque en papel termina haciendo que la segunda porción del largometraje sea efectivo, demuestra pocas intenciones de experimentar - yendo a lo seguro -.

No todo es malo, como vengo diciendo, aunque la idea de hacer que un padre reconecte con su hija siendo convertido en Niño no es la más fresca del mundo (Parece beber bastante de Back to The future pero con un twist más simple) quizá sea lo mejor de la película, conmovedor y entretenido en cantidades casi iguales.

The Boss Baby: Family Business es funcional y sé que los pequeños de la casa la disfrutarán, incluso para algunos más crecidos hay que admitir que es atractivo ver a Alec Baldwin otra vez en el papel. Por otro lado, hay muchas ideas que no aterrizan bien, el humor no tiene enfoque y el ritmo desconcierta bastante, el villano es aburrido y los buenos momentos siempre son interrumpidos por una sub-trama que me interesa menos.

¿La recomiendo? Si, para aquellos que sepan exactamente qué verán, aquí nadie busca reinventar las reglas de la narrativa y romper los límites de que es posible con la animación por computadora. The Boss Baby: Family Business es - como dije antes— exactamente lo que esperaba.
