I finally reached the end of "The Good Place", the series created by Michael Schur in 2016 that showed us life after death in the shoes of a girl who had apparently reached the good place (Heaven) when considering the shady course of his life she was actually supposed to have reached the Bad place (hell).
Unlike most of the more traditional sitcoms, the constant use of fantasy and surreal elements helped The Good Place from the beginning to establish itself as a different project, which used its unique premise to materialize multiple ethical and Moral dilemmas, where Usually the conflict consisted of Eleanor (and her friends) trying to keep their past on earth hidden, while trying to be better people for the afterlife.
Although it was inevitable that after several chapters the plot faltered a bit (somewhat understandable considering the excellent plot twist of the first episode), The Good Place is a series that achieves the impossible: Mixing the sanitized routine of a sitcom with the chaotic and conflictive elements that we usually expect from dramas (realistic or not), efficiently using the short duration of its chapters and creating an entire aesthetic and audiovisual language on which each season is based with great force.
The fact that The Good Place's vision of the afterlife is so insulated from any religious dogma ends up lending a certain "universality" to the final product, without necessarily disrespecting anyone's beliefs.
Those more unstable ideas of the fictional paradise are questioned by the series itself (and used as points to be discussed in the future), and this creates a very particular internal regulation that is easy for us to become accomplices as spectators.
The Good Place is far from the best show I've ever seen, in fact I don't even think it's one of the best comedies I've ever seen, however I appreciate going on this journey, I was blown away by the creative decisions you made, and I appreciate that he knew how to end at the right time.
Finalmente llegué al final de "The Good Place", la serie creada por Michael Schur en el 2016 que nos mostraba la vida después de la muerte en los zapatos de una chica que aparentemente había llegado al good place (El Cielo) cuando conociendo el turbio curso de su vida en realidad se suponía que hubiese llegado al Bad place (el infierno).
A diferencia de la mayoría de las sitcoms más tradicionales, el uso constante de elementos fantasiosos y surrealistas le sirvió desde el principio a The Good Place para erigirse como un proyecto diferente, que utilizaba su premisa única para materializar múltiples dilemas éticos y Morales, en dónde Generalmente el conflicto consistía en Eleanor (Y sus amigos) tratando de mantener su pasado en la tierra oculto, a medidas que trataban de ser mejores personas para el afterlife.
Aunque fue inevitable que después de varios capítulos la trama se tambaleara un poco (Algo entendible considerando el excelente plot twist del primer episodio), The Good Place es una serie que logra lo imposible: Mezclar la rutina sanitizada de una sitcom con los elementos más más caóticos y conflictivos que solemos esperar de los dramas (realistas o no), empleando con eficiencia la corta duración de sus capítulos y creando todo un lenguaje estético y audiovisual sobre el que cada temporada se apoya con muchísima fuerza.
El hecho de que la visión de la vida después de la muerta en The Good Place se encuentre tan aislada de cualquier dogma religioso termina brindándole cierta "universalidad" al producto final, sin necesidad de faltarle el respeto a las creencias de nadie necesariamente.
Aquellas ideas más inestables del paraíso ficticio son cuestionadas por la misma serie (Y usadas como puntos a tratar en el futuro), y esto crea un reglamento interno muy particular del que es fácil hacernos cómplices como espectadores.
The Good Place dista de ser la mejor serie que he visto, de hecho, ni siquiera creo que sea una de las mejores comedias que he visto, no obstante, aprecio haber emprendido este viaje, me sentí sorprendido por las decisiones creativas que tomó, y agradezco que supiera terminar en el momento justo.
