Anime Story
an unusual friendship between a high school student and an adult woman. The boy dreams of becoming a shoe designer, while the woman is grappling with gaps, confusion, and emotional struggles in her life. They meet in a park on rainy days, spend time together, and gradually carve out a space in each other’s lives. Sounds like a classic Japanese drama, right? Yes, but in true Shinkai style.

The visuals need no introduction. The rain, water droplets on leaves, Tokyo’s park, sketches of shoe designs—everything is so detailed and lifelike that it feels like photography, not animation. And yes, Shinkai probably earned a “PhD in Rain Aesthetics” for his depiction of rain.
