Una obra para el recuerdo | A work to remember
Hola de nuevo aventureras y aventureros, espero todos se encuentren muy bien en estos tiempos tan turbios que estamos atravesando. Hace unos días tuve la oportunidad de ver lo que para mí ha sido una de las mejores películas del año y seguramente terminará por ser una de mis adaptaciones cinematográficas favoritas; no es ni más ni menos que DUNE la espectacular adaptación fílmica dividida en dos partes de la saga de libros de ciencia ficción del mismo nombre escrita por Frack Herbert y continuada en colaboración de Brian Herbert y Kevin J Anderson.
Esto me ha traído hoy a ustedes; quiero expresarles mi opinión personal sobre esta película que la verdad me ha fascinado y ha superado mucho mis expectativas. Aquí vamos entonces con DUNE la adaptación cinematográfica.
Esta opinión que daré estará totalmente libre de spoilers así que puedes adentrarte en esta lectura sin miedo al éxito.
Hello again adventurers and adventurers, I hope everyone is doing well in these turbulent times we are going through. A few days ago I had the opportunity to see what for me has been one of the best movies of the year and will surely end up being one of my favorite film adaptations; it is none other than DUNE the spectacular film adaptation divided into two parts of the science fiction book saga of the same name written by Frack Herbert and continued in collaboration of Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson.
This has brought me to you today; I want to express my personal opinion about this movie that has really fascinated me and exceeded my expectations. Here we go then with DUNE the film adaptation.
This opinion I will give will be totally spoiler free so you can go into this read without fear of success.
Viaje corto por la duna | Short trip along the dune
DUNE tiene una trama que en esta parte estará llena de mucha intriga política y presentación de personajes, una presentación bastante contextual si se presta atención ya que la obra no te arrojará nada a la cara que sea demasiado explícito.
Podemos presenciar la tensión política de un imperio al borde de una aparente guerra que cambiará el orden del universo. Es el año 10191 y el duque de la casa protagonista Leto Atreides el señor del planeta Caladan es asignado por el emperador para sustituir a la casa Harkonnen como gobernantes del planeta Arrakis, parte del feudo y dominio del imperio.
Arrakis es un vasto planeta desértico donde el agua y el líquido en general es lo más valioso para sus nativos. En dicho planeta existe una sustancia o mineral conocido como “la especia” que prácticamente funciona como un potenciador de las capacidades humanas y es fundamental su uso para los viajes interestelares.
Todo este asunto desatará una gran tensión entre las casas Atreides y Harkonnen envolviéndonos en una trama llena de intrigas, traiciones y misterio. En un ambiente épico a la vez que oscuro y vasto.
Nuestro protagonista, el heredero de la casa Atreides; Paul Atreides se verá envuelto en este conflicto que cambiará su vida, en su viaje repleto de sueños y misterios descubrirá que él tiene un papel fundamental que cumplir en esta historia que cambiará el destino del universo.
DUNE has a plot that in this part will be filled with a lot of political intrigue and character presentation, a fairly contextual presentation if you pay attention as the play will not throw anything in your face that is too explicit.
We get to witness the political tension of an empire on the brink of an apparent war that will change the order of the universe. It is the year 10191 and the Duke of the protagonist house Leto Atreides the lord of the planet Caladan is assigned by the emperor to replace the house Harkonnen as rulers of the planet Arrakis, part of the fiefdom and domain of the empire.
Arrakis is a vast desert planet where water and liquid in general is the most valuable thing for its natives. On this planet there is a substance or mineral known as "the spice" that practically works as an enhancer of human capabilities and its use is essential for interstellar travel.
All this matter will unleash a great tension between the Atreides and Harkonnen houses, involving us in a plot full of intrigues, betrayals and mystery. In an epic atmosphere at the same time dark and vast.
Our protagonist, the heir of the house Atreides; Paul Atreides will be involved in this conflict that will change his life, in his journey full of dreams and mysteries will discover that he has a key role to play in this story that will change the fate of the universe.
Ambientación increíble | Incredible ambience
DUNE es sencillamente un espectáculo visual, tomas amplias y épicas muy vastas. Ambientes sombríos en donde los colores del desierto y la oscuridad hacen un profundo contraste casi como si el planeta estuviera luchando contra algo más grande que lo acecha. De verdad que la contundencia audiovisual de la película es excepcional.
A nivel visual la película creo que es un deleite, todo es muy extenso, amplio y vasto. Si tuviera que definirlo en una sola palabra creo que sería “imponente”.
DUNE is simply a visual spectacle, wide shots and vast epics. Gloomy environments where the colors of the desert and the darkness make a deep contrast almost as if the planet is fighting against something bigger that stalks it. Truly, the audiovisual forcefulness of the film is exceptional.
On a visual level I think the film is a delight, everything is very extensive, broad and vast. If I had to define it in one word I think it would be "imposing".
El ritmo de la trama | The pace of the plot
El ritmo que sigue la película está más alejado de lo que solemos estar acostumbrados. La historia de DUNE se desarrolla con calma, se toma su tiempo para presentar de manera orgánica a los personajes mediante situaciones bastante sutiles que te hacen ver el rol de cada quien.
No esperes ver acción desenfrenada a los quince minutos de metraje por ser una película de ciencia ficción, DUNE va a su tiempo, hace pausas, te muestra cosas luego las oculta en las sombras; te da pistas de lo que podría o no suceder.
Creo que el único momento donde siento que la película rompe el ritmo es con algunos viajes oníricos del protagonista que suelen ser repetitivos, pero estoy seguro por el desarrollo que tiene la trama que guardan un significado al que hay que prestarle más atención.
Es fácil perder un poco el ritmo de la historia si no se presta atención, ocurren muchas cosas a la vez, pero creo que esta trama es un ente vivo, algo que se va gestando para sorprendernos poco a poco. Creo que se pudo profundizar un poco más en la historia que hay detrás de los antagonistas de la película que la verdad es un placer verlos en pantalla, sus interpretaciones dejan la piel de gallina.
The pace of the film is further away from what we are used to. The story of DUNE unfolds calmly, taking its time to organically introduce the characters through subtle situations that make you see the role of each one.
Don't expect to see unbridled action fifteen minutes into the film because it's a sci-fi movie, DUNE takes its time, it pauses, it shows you things then hides them in the shadows; it gives you hints of what may or may not happen.
I think the only moment where I feel the film breaks the rhythm is with some of the protagonist's dreamlike journeys that tend to be repetitive, but I'm sure from the way the plot develops that they hold a meaning that you need to pay more attention to.
It's easy to lose the rhythm of the story if you don't pay attention, there are many things happening at the same time, but I think this plot is a living entity, something that is brewing to surprise us little by little. I think it could have gone a little deeper into the story behind the antagonists of the film, who are a pleasure to see on screen, their performances give you goosebumps.
El lore dentro de este mundo | The lore within this world
Finalmente, a uno de los puntos que más quería tocar; la información contenida dentro de estas películas es enorme, yo lo disfruté mucho porque leí algunos libros y este en concreto en donde se desarrollan estos sucesos, tenga en cuenta que la obra literaria de DUNE cubre casi una veintena de títulos.
Si no estás muy familiarizado con el universo de DUNE es probable que te cueste un poco seguir el hilo de la historia y los acontecimientos. El lore de este universo es basto y muy rico. Por ello he tomado la decisión con este post de inaugurar una nueva sección donde expandiremos mucho más este increíble universo que ha inspirado cientos de obras legendarias como por ejemplo Star Wars.
Sin duda será algo que disfrutaremos mucho, al menos así lo espero. No quiero hacer spoilers de la película porque considero que esta experiencia es imperdible y creo que lo mejor es que la veas con tus propios ojos y la disfrutes.
Finally, to one of the points I wanted to touch on the most; the information contained within these movies is enormous, I enjoyed it a lot because I read some books and this one in particular where these events take place, keep in mind that the literary work of DUNE covers almost a score of titles.
If you are not very familiar with the DUNE universe you will probably find it a bit hard to follow the thread of the story and events. The lore of this universe is vast and very rich. That's why I have taken the decision with this post to inaugurate a new section where we will expand much more this incredible universe that has inspired hundreds of legendary works such as Star Wars.
No doubt it will be something we will enjoy a lot, at least I hope so. I don't want to make spoilers of the movie because I consider this experience is unmissable and I think it's best that you see it with your own eyes and enjoy it.

Esta fue mi opinión sobre esta magnífica película que la verdad me dejó con muchas ganas de ver la segunda parte. La espero con ansias y recomiendo mucho este film para quien quiera animarse a entrar en este mundo.
