I first saw a short clip of Jerry Maguire on Instagram, and I knew I had to look for the movie to watch; ever since, I have watched the movie a couple of times.
Jerry Maguire is a 1996 movie written and directed by Cameron Crowe, the movie is a heartfelt romantic comedy drama that stars Tom Cruise as Jerry Maguire a successful sports agent who suffers a set back in his career from developing a conscience for the game after he had an encounter with one of his clients child, leading him to write a manifesto about the future of their company, putting their clients well being first by being honest and holding on to fewer clients they can manage properly which lead to him being fired from the firm.
Cuba Gooding Jr. as Rod Tidwell, a loud-mouthed football player who was the only one who stayed and believed in Jerry Maguire, putting all and trusting him as the agent who wants the best for him.
Renée Zellweger, who was cast as Dorothy, a single mother who had lost her husband earlier; she was an accountant at his former firm and only quit her position to follow Jerry Maguire because she loved and believed in his manifesto and was willing to build with him. Dorothy, who had already fallen in love, found herself fantasising about building a family with him.
What captured me most about the movie is the romance and the mix of comedy; the sweetness of Dorothy melted my heart in several scenes in the movie. Dorothy, who had lost her husband at an early age, found Jerry Maguire exciting and charming, and she couldn't help but fall in love with him. They later got married, but it seemed like the marriage was forced on Jerry Maguire, only for him to realise in the end that his life was empty without Dorothy; even with his company having a big night, he didn’t feel complete without her.
The best parts of the movie for me were the part where Jerry Maguire and Dorothy met a deaf person and his partner in an elevator, and she understood and interpreted the sign language for him “You complete me” and when he came back looking for his wife at the end of the movie.
Tom Cruise was great in his performance; he put his all into his acting. I have always seen him more as an action guy rather than a romance kind of actor. Cuba Gooding Jr., on the other hand, played a very funny role as Rod; he brought a lot of comedy to the movie, and not forgetting Renee Zellweger, whose calm look and beauty got me hooked on the screen.
The movie is a recommendation for fans of romance as well as comedy; it is a movie that will be worth your time and will entertain you.
