Hi hive community. This time, I want to write to you about the last anime I've seen to date: Record of Ragnarok (2021). I met this series on Saturday June 19 when I was in bed checking Facebook and saw a video about a battle between two well-known characters: the King of Olympus and God of Gods from Greek mythology, against the so-called “Father of humanity”, the first man of creation. To avoid further spoilers, I decided to go straight to the video description and search for the name. It took me a couple of seconds to Google it and discover that it is available on the Netflix streaming platform and was published on June 17, and overnight it was among the 10 most viewed series and movies on the platform. Neither short nor lazy I downloaded the entire series and for Sunday to feast on it.
Mientras esperaba que se descargara la serie, porque en Venezuela el internet es bastante inestable y lento, leí la sinopsis que ofrece Netflix y además busqué en google para tener un mayor contexto de lo que trata el anime. Leí que tras millones de años de la existencia de la humanidad, el consejo de los dioses se había reunido para decidir qué hacer con la humanidad; cuando una valquiria irrumpe en la sala para hacer una propuesta: según las normas de los dioses, el destino de los humanos puede ser decidido a través del Ragnarok, que consiste en la lucha entre los 13 dioses y los 13 humanos más fuertes que han existido, y quien logre obtener 7 victorias se declara el vencedor. Si ganaban los humanos, podían existir mil años más, pero si ganaban los dioses, la humanidad sería exterminada.
While I was waiting for the series to be downloaded, because in Venezuela the internet is quite unstable and slow, I read the synopsis that Netflix offers and also googled to have a greater context of what the anime is about. I read that after millions of years of humanity's existence, the council of the gods had met to decide what to do with humanity; when a Valkyrie breaks into the room to make a proposal: according to the rules of the gods, the fate of humans can be decided through Ragnarok, which consists of the fight between the 13 gods and the 13 strongest humans that have ever existed, and whoever manages to obtain 7 victories is declared the winner. If humans won, there could be a thousand more years, but if the gods won, humanity would be exterminated.
El domingo temprano empecé a ver la serie, y empezó justamente con la escena que relata Netflix en su sinopsis, y luego de que los dioses bromearan acerca de la idea, aceptaron motivados por el comentario sarcástico de la valquiria sobre el miedo de los dioses a ser derrotados y humillados por simples humanos, lo que daría pie al primer Ragnarok de la historia. Zeus, como regente del consejo de dioses, le dio a la valquiria la tarea de elegir a los humanos que lucharían contra ellos.
Early Sunday I started watching the series, and it started precisely with the scene that Netflix recounts in its synopsis, and after the gods joked about the idea, they accepted motivated by the Valkyrie's sarcastic comment about the gods' fear of be defeated and humiliated by mere humans, which would give rise to the first Ragnarok in history. Zeus, as regent of the council of gods, gave the Valkyrie the task of choosing the humans who would fight them.
El primer combate se dio de inmediato, enfrentando al Dios más fuerte de entre todos los dioses, el Dios del trueno en la mitología nórdica con su martillo súper poderoso, contra el humano más fuerte de todos, el Señor de la Guerra en la época de los Tres Reinos en China con su representativa alabarda. Durante la batalla, se cuenta que la costumbre de ambos combatientes era derrotar a sus rivales de un solo golpe, dado a que gozaban de un poder incalculable. La sorpresa fue para todos los dioses de la arena cuando el humano recibió el primer impacto y esto no le supuso ni un solo rasguño. De hecho, el humano fue el primero en generar una herida en su oponente con su alabarda. El combate está escenificado de manera maravillosa, donde se muestran los verdaderos poderes de los oponentes y se decide, al final, por la supremacía que tienen los dioses sobre los humanos, sin importar lo fuerte, inteligentes, resistentes que fueran.
The first combat took place immediately, facing the strongest God of all the gods, the God of thunder in Norse mythology with his super powerful hammer, against the strongest human of all, the Lord of War in the time of the Three Kingdoms in China with their representative halberd. During the battle, it is said that the custom of both combatants was to defeat their rivals with a single blow, since they enjoyed incalculable power. The surprise was for all the gods of the sand when the human received the first impact and this did not cause a single scratch. In fact, the human was the first to inflict a wound on his opponent with his halberd. The combat is staged in a wonderful way, where the true powers of the opponents are shown and it is decided, in the end, by the supremacy that the gods have over the humans, no matter how strong, intelligent, resistant they were.
En el segundo combate es específicamente el que vi en el video en Facebook, entre el Rey del Olimpo y Dios de Dioses de la mitología griega, contra el llamado “Padre de la humanidad”, el primer hombre de la creación. En esta batalla, el humano solo lucharía con una nudillera, perfecta para su estilo de lucha cuerpo a cuerpo. El Dios del Rayo libera su poder y de ser un viejito enclenque, gana masa muscular digna de fisicoculturista y lucha contra el humano creado a imagen y semejanza de los dioses con puños y patadas. Esta batalla fue muy cerrada, el humano logró poner al Dios en aprietos un par de veces, pero en este caso, la resistencia física del Dios fue superior y eso le generó la victoria.
In the second fight it is specifically the one I saw in the video on Facebook, between the King of Olympus and the God of Gods from Greek mythology, against the so-called “Father of humanity”, the first man of creation. In this battle, the human would only fight with a knuckle pad, perfect for his hand-to-hand fighting style. The God of Lightning unleashes his power and from being a puny old man, he gains muscle mass worthy of a bodybuilder and fights against the human created in the image and likeness of the gods with fists and kicks. This battle was very close, the human managed to put the God in trouble a couple of times, but in this case, the physical resistance of the God was superior and that generated the victory.
El representante de los humanos para el tercer combate se auto seleccionó, ya que sí, estaba entre los candidatos, pero fue él quien se ofreció para luchar esta batalla. Era un espadachín que siempre perdía sus batallas (porque se retiraba cuando sabía que no podía ganarlas) pero luego de su muerte estuvo 400 años practicando y se convirtió en el espadachín maestro, el mejor de todos. Su oponente era el considerado más fuerte entre todos los dioses de la mitología griega, el Rey de los mares y su poderoso tridente. La batalla empezó con una demostración de poder por parte del Dios, con una embestida de ataques potentes que el humano, gracias a sus años de entrenamiento, pudo visualizar y hasta predecir, pero que de poco y nada servía porque cuando más cerca se sentía de alcanzar al Dios con su espada, el Dios lo sorprendía aumentando su velocidad aún más. El Dios con su tridente, partió el arma del espadachín en dos, lo cual no fue un inconveniente ya que el humano tomó la mitad que solo es hoja de la espada y esta, gracias a un poder de valquiria, se convirtió en otra espada. El desenlace de esta batalla dio como vencedor, por primera vez en la historia, a un humano sobre un Dios.
The human representative for the third match was self-selected, since yes, he was among the candidates, but it was he who volunteered to fight this battle. He was a swordsman who always lost his battles (because he retired when he knew he could not win them) but after his death he spent 400 years practicing and became the master swordsman, the best of all. His opponent was considered the strongest among all the gods of Greek mythology, the King of the seas and his mighty trident. The battle began with a demonstration of power by the God, with an onslaught of powerful attacks that the human, thanks to his years of training, could visualize and even predict, but that was of little and nothing because the closer he felt to reaching the God with his sword, the God surprised him by increasing his speed even more. The God with his trident, split the swordsman's weapon in two, which was not an inconvenience since the human took the half that is only the blade of the sword and this, thanks to the power of a Valkyrie, became another sword. The outcome of this battle gave as the victor, for the first time in history, a human over a God.
De la cuarta batalla solo se muestran los contrincantes, ya que tendrá lugar en la segunda temporada (que espero con ansias. Los contrincantes son por el lado de los humanos, el asesino en serie británico más famoso de la historia, cuyo nombre aún no se sabe pero se le conoce por su apodo, y el hijo de Zeus mitad Dios y mitad hombre, encargado de los Doce Trabajos y famoso por asesinar al León de Nemea. Para esta batalla, el humano pidió que la arena fuera cambiada a la temática de la ciudad de Inglaterra y los Dioses lo aceptaron.
Of the fourth battle only the opponents are shown, since it will take place in the second season (which I look forward to. The opponents are on the side of the humans, the most famous British serial killer in history, whose name is not yet known. He knows but is known by his nickname, and the half-God, half-man son of Zeus, in charge of the Twelve Labors and famous for slaying the Lion of Nemea. For this battle, the human asked that the arena be changed to the theme of the city of England and the Gods accepted it.
La temática de la serie, la conspiración que se da en ella para lograr la derrota de los Dioses, la magnificencia de las batallas y la explicación de la historia de cada uno de los personajes que intervienen, tanto humanos como deidades, me fascinó y me enganchó muy fuerte al anime. Es uno de los pocos que me ha hecho querer leer el manga para poder tener una historia más completa de lo que sucedió y está por suceder en el anime.
The theme of the series, the conspiracy that occurs in it to achieve the defeat of the Gods, the magnificence of the battles and the explanation of the history of each of the characters involved, both humans and deities, fascinated and hooked me badly on the anime. It is one of the few that has made me want to read the manga in order to have a more complete story of what happened and is about to happen in the anime.
