Hello hive friends. Once again here, sharing my opinions with you.
This time I bring you the review of Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. The sequel to Maleficent. And in turn both based on the classic Disney movie, Sleeping Beauty.
I was very excited when I saw the first Maleficent movie on TV. A version of the classic antagonist to give him a new image and be able to tell his story.
I liked the first movie too much, a heroine who was forced to be a villain. But that in turn, she changed for love to an innocent being. Ah, the love of a mother to her children has always been moving to me. The special effects, the plot and the action. I enjoyed it a lot.
So imagine my expectations when they announced their sequel. I was in heaven! I couldn't see it at the time because I didn't have the means to do so. Until a few months ago they lent me a Disney+ account. So I decided to download it and finally see it. I turned off the lights, ate sweets and chocolates, drank soda. The movie started.
It was a total disappointment. I'm still sad about it.
I will tell you why below.
Summary
The first movie ended with Aurora being named Queen. In this sequel we see that Aurora is still the queen of the wasteland. She malefic hers always protective of her. Everything changes when the prince proposes to her and Aurora and Maleficent must meet the prince's parents. Which are the kings of the neighboring kingdom. The people of the wasteland are not welcome in the human realm, especially the notorious evil witch Maleficent. However, we are shown that the king seeks peace; on the other hand the queen seeks war. The queen despises the fairies and will do everything in her power to end the species.
Plot
The plot left a lot to be desired. they really made Aurora look like a real fool. I don't know if the change of director had anything to do with it. What I do know is that the end result was a complete disappointment. Aurora, more than a teenager in love, is a queen and a daughter, but in the film she lets us see that she is not suitable for any of the positions.
She prefers to be on the queen's side even when it's not what she wants. She accuses Maleficent and decides to stay with the humans, despite having a duty in the wasteland. She lets them speak maleficent profanity to her face without saying anything and let the queen manipulate her at will. Besides that she had Maleficent killed; she revived but still.
Another thing that left me confused was the geography. In the first film, Aurora's kingdom is a neighboring kingdom with the wasteland. In the sequel, the prince's kingdom comes to the fore. That confused me too much.
The worst scene for me and what made me hate the movie was the following. The queen discovers that the key to killing fairies is found in a flower in the wasteland, which contains the essence of a dead fairy. It is where they bury their dead. They invade the moor, extract almost all the flowers. They prepare for war. On the day of the wedding, the prince gives Aurora that flower, arguing that her mother gave it to him. She did nothing beyond planting doubt in her mind. She put in her hands the ashes of her people. OMG.
What more sign do you want to know that everything is wrong?
Anyway, there is a war, many people from the wasteland die (Aurora's fault) Maleficent is killed (Aurora's fault, again) she revives and aha. The queen killed a lot of people and they turn her into a goat. Excellent.
And after all the war and death. They celebrate the wedding that same day with great happiness.
Why?
Terrible.
I understand that she is +13 and that she is seen by children, but it shouldn't be like that. There are examples of great movies that can be seen by younger children that are of very good quality and appreciated. See The incredible, Monsters Inc, Moana. Even his child plot makes more sense than this.
Conclution
The special effects, as always, are good and of high quality. The soundtrack is so-so. The plot is terrible.
I give it a 4/10. For the special effects.
