We’re through the looking glass people!

In 1982, Carl Reiner and Steve Martin made Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid with a cavalcade of stars of the golden era of film noir, including Humphrey Bogart and Barbara Stanwyck. It’s a parody of the film noir era, shot in black and white and careful intercut editing of Martin with the noir performers and their movies.

Steve Martin is Rigby Reardon, private Detective, hired by Juliet Forest (Rachel Ward) to investigate the death of her father. What follows is a funny, sometimes silly parody of the genre.

The Good...

Shooting in black and white made it easier to edit the other films into it.

Steve Martin is funny as is Rachel Ward.

The Not So Good...

The writing is uneven like they had to fit the main story into the film clips.

Funny. Worth the watch.
