Jake and Elwood Blues made the jump to the big screen from their humble beginnings on Saturday Night Live with this pretty awesome musical action comedy. The Blues Brothers is an homage to the blues and it is done with hilarity, some great music and cameos from some of the best blues performers living at the time: Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin...
Jon Belushi and Dan Aykroyd are Jake and Elwood Blues and they are on a "mission from God," to save the orphanage they grew up in. What follows is a zany adventure as the two decide to put their Band back together to do that great gig to raise the $5000 to pay off the taxes to keep the building open. In this mission, they encounter militant groups, a crazy ex-girlfriend, played by the late, great Carrie Fisher, and a great adventure that involves one of the biggest car crash scenes ever. There are some great musical performances.
And they never take off their shades. Mostly.
This movie shouldn't work but it does and it is thanks to Belushi and Aykroyd who commit so completely to their mission. Check it out, you won't regret it.
