At first glance, this may appear to be just a goofy big screen jump for a sketch from SCTV, but a closer look will show you a rather clever remake of Hamlet by William Shakespeare with Bob (Rick Moranis) and Doug (Dave Thomas) in the roles of Rosancrantz and Guildenstern, Lynne Griffin as Pam, the titular Hamlet and Max Von Sydow as Brewmeister Smith.

Pam’s uncle kills her dad and takes over the Elsinore brewery, and, with Smith, conspires to create a powerful mind control... beer. Long story short, this is charming, funny, really follows the Hamlet story, kind of, with lots of beer, hockey and a couple very funny leads.

I was a little annoyed with the number of times they say, “eh,” though. They really ramped it up.

Funny stuff.
