This is a good one.
Rachel Chu, played by the amazing Constance Wu, travels to Singapore to meet her boyfriend's family during a wedding. To her surprise, they are super rich and they don't necessarily like her. Hijunks ensue.
That's a bit dismissive, I realize and I apologize but that is essentially the story. There is a lot of light-hearted stuff here that balances with some of the darker "tradition" stuff that families often have to negotiate. Throw in the fact that everybody except Rachel is very rich and it just gets weird.
I was really taken by the story but I was a little tired of watching the excess on display by all the rich people.
Having said that, it is an enjoyable flick and Wu is great.
