MV5BMTQyNTQxNDA0NV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwODAwMTU4Nw@@.V1_SY1000_CR0,0,1581,1000_AL.jpg In 2012, I was excited to hear that a movie called The Watch, about four guys who start a neighbourhood watch group that suddenly finds themselves fighting aliens, and I couldn't wait to see it. I didn't see it, life got in the way and I didn't see it then or later for that matter.

Turns out that was a good call.

The Good...

As ever, this is a concept that I really like. I love the idea of ordinary people dealing with extraordinary circumstances and four guys who form a neighbourhood watch to change things up encountering aliens and an alien invasion screams fun.

Richard Ayoade is great.

The Not so Good...

Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn. They seem to be falling into the trap they have been following lately. They are talented but they don't seem to be trying sometimes, playing into their regular tropes.

Jonah Hill is forgettable.

The women in this film are not in any way pertinent to the plot.

This is also a mess tonally. It can't decide if it is a raunchy comedy, a serious comedy, a sci-fi actioner or what. It goes from slapstick to stupid humour to trying to be serious without any real transitions. It doesn't work.

Skip it. Great idea, bad movie.
