John Candy and Eugene Levy are armed and dangerous! John is a fired police officer, Frank Dooley, and Eugene is a discredited lawyer, Norman Kane. They become security guards. The pharmaceutical company they are assigned to gets robbed on the first night of their new job. Comedy ensues.
Seriously. It's pretty funny for an 80s comedy (I've been somewhat disappointed with the comedies I loved back then). Candy and Levy have excellent chemistry, years of working together I imagine. They start to investigate their circumstances and find that there is corruption in their company and union. More comedy ensues.
I didn't care for all the angry union people or the portrait they paint of unions but it was done for a reason I guess. Robert Loggia and Brian James are among these angry guys and they make great bad guys.
Meg Ryan is Maggie Cavanaugh, daughter of their boss, who is dragged into their investigation. The other security guards are a who's who of comic character actors.
The movie zips along quickly from set piece to set piece, holding together much better than the last Candy/Levy film I talked about. There's a great chase scene or two. I am always surprised when there's nudity in PG rated films from the 80s.
This is a keeper, it holds up well. And I miss John Candy.
