Lawrence Kasdan wrote and directed this 1981 film noir which stars William Hurt, as a small town lawyer, and Kathleen Turner, as the woman he has an affair with. During a heat wave in Florida, Hurt’s Ned has an affair with Turner’s Matty. Complications arise when she asks him to murder her rich husband.

This is one of the first of the modern noir erotic thrillers and it is surprisingly good. Hurt and Turner give strong performances, Ted Danson is strange. There’s a really young, healthy looking Mickey Rourke. Kasdan captures an intense heat wave in this film and you can feel the oppressiveness of it, especially as it parallels the drama and the affair.

It’s a fascinating thriller grounded by strong performances.
