I've never seen Mad Max. I need to say that upfront. I loved The Road Warrior though and thoroughly liked Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. I know I will need to see that first one some day just to see where it all started but I need to get over my distaste for Mel Gibson at the moment.

I was, initially, apprehensive when Mad Max: Fury Road was originally announced and then delayed and announced and delayed. I was intrigued when they announced that Tom Hardy was taking on the iconic role instead of Gibson. I went opening weekend and saw it in theatres and loved it.

As with the last two Mad Max movies, this one is as much about the communities he is helping despite his desire not to as much as it is about him. In truth, in this one, he is even more of a supporting character as Fury Road is explicitly about the character of Furiosa, portrayed by Charlize Theron, and her mission to rescue the pure women from the clutches of Immortan Joe, and his War Boys, and deliver them to the "green place" of her childhood. She is pursued relentlessly by Joe and Max is the supporting character who helps her on her journey towards redemption.
