Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was the follow-up to the successful Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and explores the fallout of the creation of the Genesis planet. It also explores the consequences of reckless choices.
The first thing you notice, outside of the dark tone of the story as Admiral James Kirk and crew wrestle with their grief over Spock and their many fallen comrades (and McCoy’s psychosis), is the fact that Lt. Saavik is played by Robin Curtis, replacing Kirstie Alley. I heard this was a result of producers offering her a smaller salary for her return after the success of Khan and she did not accept (as that previous salary had already been very low).
At any rate, new Saavik.
And Christopher Lloyd as a Klingon.
Kirk and company steal the Enterprise to deliver Bones to Genesis to reunite Spock’s mind/soul with his body. Meanwhile Saavik and David Marcus find a resurrected Spock on the planet while Lloyd’s Kruge destroys their ship and captures them because he wants the Genesis project because he can weaponize it. Turns out it’s unstable and the planet is tearing itself apart. Hijinks ensue.
The Good...
The performances are uniformly strong. Seriously.

David Marcus is killed and the Enterprise was destroyed and we felt something for the ship. IT. WAS. THE. ENTERPRISE!!!!
The Not So Good...
Uhura was terribly underused.
The visual effects looks awful dated.
This Original Series cast and movie has far more heart than the modern reincarnation (and destruction of the ship) And the story and storytelling are great. Watch it!
