A24 Siempre Termina Sorprendiendo.
Ok, simplemente lo primero que quiero decir es: ¡¡¡WOOOW!!! Sabía que las películas de A24 están a otro nivel ya que había visto hace un tiempo Green Knight y me gustó muchísimo, así a raíz de eso (Green Knight) decidí volver a ver películas de este estudio y me fui directo a Civil War, pensé: “Trama bélico, me agrada” y como siempre no había visto ningún tráiler, solo la portada y sabía que era de A24 con eso basta y sobra, pues, vaya sorpresa me lleve con este film y la forma en la que está hecho. Absolutamente todo vale la pena con Civil War, así que aquí mi opinión y algunos spoilers (se los advierto de ante mano).
A24 Always Ends Up Surprising.
Ok, simply the first thing I want to say is: WOOOW!!!!! I knew that A24 movies are at another level since I had seen Green Knight some time ago and I liked it a lot, so because of that (Green Knight) I decided to see again movies from this studio and I went straight to Civil War, I thought: “War plot, I like it” and as always I had not seen any trailer, only the cover and I knew it was from A24 with that is enough, well, what a surprise I got with this film and the way it is made. Absolutely everything is worth it with Civil War, so here my opinion and some spoilers (I warn you in advance).
Primero lo primero, y lo primero es saber de qué va Civil War. Esta película nos sitúa en un futuro bélico, donde Estado Unidos se encuentra a mitad de una guerra, existen distintos bandos que tiene participación en este caos pero nuestra atención principal será la de nuestros equipo de periodista formado por Lee Miller, veterana fotógrafa de guerra interpretada por Kirsten Dunst, su colega periodista Joel (Wagner Moura), una joven aspirante a fotógrafa Jessie Cullen (Cailee Spaeny) y su mentor Sammy (Stephen McKinley Henderson), este grupo planea ir punto central de la guerra para documentar todo y tener la posibilidad de entrevistar al presidente.
Sinceramente, no sabía a ciencia cierta de qué iba la trama de la película pero también debo admitir que es una forma bastante ingeniosa de mostrar un conflicto bélico desde otro ángulo al que normalmente estamos acostumbrados en este tipo de película. Quizás porque a mí no me llama mucho la atención ver los trailers de las películas, sino, ir directamente a verla y estoy seguro que por eso es que me llevo muchas veces una excelente o pésima sorpresa sobre las películas y en esta ocasión puedo volver a decir que me lleve una muy muy buena sorpresa por parte de Alex Garland, director de Civil War.
First things first, and the first thing is to know what Civil War is about. This movie places us in a warlike future, where the United States is in the middle of a war, there are different sides that have a stake in this chaos but our main attention will be on our team of journalists formed by Lee Miller, a veteran war photographer played by Kirsten Dunst, her journalist colleague Joel (Wagner Moura), a young aspiring photographer Jessie Cullen (Cailee Spaeny) and her mentor Sammy (Stephen McKinley Henderson), this group plans to go to the center of the war to document everything and have the chance to interview the president.
Honestly, I didn't know for sure what the plot of the movie was about, but I must admit that it is a pretty ingenious way of showing a war conflict from another angle than we are usually used to in this kind of movies. Maybe because I'm not really interested in watching the trailers of the movies, but I go directly to see it and I'm sure that's why I often get an excellent or bad surprise about the movies and this time I can say again that I got a very good surprise from Alex Garland, director of Civil War.
Puedo decir que el director hizo un gran trabajo en todo, en cada área, Civil War nos muestra una parte más realista de lo que realmente sería vivir una guerra de este estilo, cada escenario donde se presenta una explosión, un tiroteo o una persecución se siente tan realista que te mantiene inverso en todo lo que está aconteciendo en frente de ti. El hecho de vivir este suceso a manos de un equipo de fotógrafos y periodistas aporta una increíble versatilidad para presenciar cada uno de los extremos que pueden llegar a ocurrir en una guerra.
La parte sonora juega una papel muy importante en la película, ya que así como puede pasar en la vida real, donde en un momento paz y tranquilidad todo puede cambiar en menos de un parpadeo. A lo largo de la película vamos apreciando momentos donde no se escucha absolutamente nada y solo podemos apreciar lo que está delante de nuestro ojos, las escenas que nos quieren mostrar es con lo único que contamos para saber qué está pasando o qué será lo próximo. Este silencioso no solo se queda ahí, ya que Alex Garland juego con los momentos de tensión a momentos “relajadas” y “tranquilos” a través de lo sonoro.
I can say that the director did a great job in everything, in every area, Civil War shows us a more realistic part of what it would really be like to live a war of this style, each scenario where there is an explosion, a shootout or a chase feels so realistic that it keeps you invested in everything that is happening in front of you. The fact of living this event at the hands of a team of photographers and journalists brings an incredible versatility to witness each of the extremes that can occur in a war.
The sound part plays a very important role in the film, because just as it can happen in real life, where in a moment of peace and quiet everything can change in less than a blink of an eye. Throughout the film we appreciate moments where absolutely nothing is heard and we can only appreciate what is in front of our eyes, the scenes that want to show us is the only thing we have to know what is happening or what will be next. This silent is not only there, as Alex Garland plays with the moments of tension to “relaxed” and “quiet” moments through sound.
Como les dije, la perspectiva de los fotógrafos entregan momentos muy únicos en todo lo que está pasando haciendo ver fotografías de esos precisos momentos y como dando un pequeño break en toda la locura que está pasando, por eso si van a ver la película por su plataforma de streaming les recomiendo tener un buen equipo de sonido o unos buenos auriculares, esto créanme que eleva más la experiencia al ver la película.
Las interpretaciones de los actores es muy buena cada uno sacando a relucir la personalidad y experiencia de sus personajes, algunos manteniendo la calma sabiendo qué hacer en este tipo de situaciones y los más nuevos, como Jessie, dejándose llevar por sus emociones hasta que poco a poco va adaptándose a su nueva realidad. El desarrollo de cada uno de los personajes está bien logrado, especialmente el de Lee y Jessie, ya que son los que más enfoque tienen, no como Sammy, por ejemplo, que son personajes que están para cumplir la función de “puente” para los protagonistas y que logren ese “antes” y “después” en la trama como lo podemos ver con Lee después la muerte del mismo Sammy.
As I told you, the perspective of the photographers deliver very unique moments in everything that is happening making you see pictures of those precise moments and as giving a little break in all the madness that is happening, so if you are going to watch the movie through your streaming platform I recommend you to have a good sound system or good headphones, this believe me that elevates more the experience of watching the movie.
The performances of the actors are very good, each one bringing out the personality and experience of their characters, some keeping calm and knowing what to do in this type of situation and the newer ones, like Jessie, letting themselves be carried away by their emotions until little by little they adapt to their new reality. The development of each of the characters is well achieved, especially that of Lee and Jessie, as they are the ones who have more focus, unlike Sammy, for example, who are characters that are to fulfill the function of “bridge” for the protagonists and achieve that ‘before’ and “after” in the plot as we can see with Lee after the death of Sammy himself.
Sin duda su final era algo que no esperaba, sí me imaginaba algo parecido a lo que muestran en la película pero definitivamente no de esa manera, constantemente siempre te lleva a la duda de que en algún momento unos de nuestros personajes puede morir y siempre te sorprende pero a la vez te calma con esos increíbles planos que logran transmitir algo de calma en medio de tanto caos, diría que ya es algo típico de A24 transmitir mucho con los recursos visuales más que con los narrativos (al menos eso recuerdo también de Green Knight) y déjenme decir que lo hace increíble.
Civil War es una película que te muestra un ángulo diferente a lo habitual en este tipo de películas sobre conflicto bélicos, en está ocasión mostrándote un lado más crudo y que muchas puede llegar a ser verdad en estas situaciones, logra atraparte en cada escena y a cada minuto, juega muchos con los momentos que tensión y acción haciendo que no quieras perderte nada de lo que está pasando y de un momento para otro te traslada escenas donde reina la tranquilidad para nuestros protagonistas pero no por mucho tiempo.
Undoubtedly its ending was something I did not expect, yes I imagined something similar to what they show in the movie but definitely not that way, constantly always takes you to the doubt that at some point one of our characters may die and always surprises you but at the same time calms you with those incredible shots that manage to convey some calm in the midst of so much chaos, I would say that it is already something typical of A24 transmit much with visual resources rather than with narrative (at least that I remember also from Green Knight) and let me say that it makes it incredible.
Civil War is a film that shows you a different angle to the usual in this type of films about war conflicts, this time showing you a more raw side and that many can become true in these situations, manages to catch you in every scene and every minute, plays many moments of tension and action making you do not want to miss anything that is happening and from one moment to another moves you scenes where tranquility reigns for our protagonists but not for long.
Recomiendo ver está película, si tienes la oportunidad de verla con un buen sonido hazlo, te aseguro que la apreciaras mucho y la experiencia será mejor. Si quieres disfrutar de una buena obra y te gustan las películas de conflictos armados Civil War es una buena opción para ti atrapándote con cada escena y dándote una visión diferente sobre la guerra ¡¡Hasta una nueva ocasión, gente, saludos!! : )
I recommend watching this movie, if you have the opportunity to see it with a good sound do it, I assure you that you will appreciate it a lot and the experience will be better. If you want to enjoy a good work and you like movies about armed conflicts Civil War is a good choice for you catching you with every scene and giving you a different vision about the war!!! : )
