Play Dirty is a movie directed by Shane Black. It is based on Donald E. Westlake Parker book series, and written under the pen name Richard Stark.
The movies introduces us to a crew of thieves who pull off a bank heist. The leader of the crew goes by the name Parker; played by Mark Wahlberg. But right after their successful mission, they get double crossed by a crew member of them who goes by the name Zen (Rosa Salazar).
Months passed by, and Parker gets involved in another heist that coincidentally makes him cross path once more with Zen. This provides Parker with the opportunity to carry out his revenge on Zen for what she did to his crew.
I really feel like Mark was an appropriate choice for the role of Parker. I love his aura in the movie. He really fit in right with the persona of Parker in the book series.
When Parker started working with Zen on their second mission, at some point, I was beginning to think that he was going to let what she did to his crew slide. They seemed to be getting along fine, and cooperating. Little did I know Parker had an evil surprise for her at the end, but pretended to keep it cool because she was part of what he needed to pull off the heist successfully. Though I do think Zen kind of had it coming.
I love the suspense in the movie. There were a lot of moments I was on the edge of my seat, anxious about what was going to happen next. The film had a lot of ‘you didn’t see that coming’ vibes, a bit of similar vibes with the Money Heist series. They give the viewers an impression that they are losing, but over time you come to realize that they were actually winning.
There were also a couple of good ‘laugh out loud’ moments in the movie, that would make you rewind it a few more times before you proceed. It’s a mix of action, suspense, and comedy combined. It was straight to the point and had little or less of irrelevant moments in it.
It’s the kind of film and I would love to rewatch. I really loved Mark Wahlberg’s choice of movies and roles in them. I give Play Dirty 4 out of 5 stars. It was really a great watch and worth my time.
See you in my next review, bye for now.
