Movie Review: Black Rabbit

Review by @samostically · 274d · of Black Rabbit

Hello everyone,

It is the weekend, and a time for me to relax from the daily hassle that comes with Monday to Friday. One of the ways I do that is by watching movies and TV series. Today I watched one of Netflix's newest releases, Black Rabbit. While scrolling through Netflix, I found this limited series, and for a second I mistook it for Rabbit Hole. The thriller series starring Kiefer Sutherland as a private espionage agent framed for murder. I totally forgot they are not the same series, but I am glad for the mistake.

Black Rabbit is a limited series about the bond that exists between brothers, and the roles of the brothers are played by Jude Law and Jason Bateman. I remember Jude Law from the popular rom-com movie ***The Holiday***, where he acted alongside Cameron Diaz, and I know Jason Bateman from ***Ozark***, the popular money-laundering and crime TV series. The combination of both actors in this new series truly drops the bomb, and they both create the entirety of the series with their acting since the story revolves around both of them. ![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/samostically/23sweNGMbLMpu67ujAQPV9tM1W33CD5zb5WB6HgR6UXsTEkGRPdHm7upSFRHUJaJ6j1mm.png) [Jason Bateman & Jude Law](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt23055142/mediaviewer/rm120370946/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
Jude Law plays the character Jake, a restaurateur looking to open his second location as a form of expansion, so he does not have to live off just working tirelessly on only one location. Jason Bateman plays Vince, an unstable individual with a long list of poor life decisions, an absent father, a junkie, a debtor, and a guy who knows how to have a good time. Together, the brothers opened up a restaurant called Black Rabbit, and this makes sense since a huge portion of the series happens in the restaurant. But somewhere along the line, Vince leaves for Reno out of the blue, which I am beginning to suspect is because of his outstanding debts. ![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/samostically/EoASvideZrFtoamRb2qtQfUVWspWMtCen1ojG359SDnemM6dBGAodmDhugfXneyrFHN.png) [The restaurateur](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt23055142/mediaviewer/rm3387732994/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
For the first scene, you get roped into the action, where a burglary takes place in the middle of a celebration of life at the restaurant. Someone tries to step in to remedy the situation when Jake refuses to give the burglars his wrist watch, and then it gets cut into a month earlier, before this event happens. The storyline is gradually building up, and I say this because I am already on the second episode, heading to the third. Here, I even get to find out that the restaurant ***Black Rabbit*** was actually Vince's idea, and he started the business together with his brother Jake, who was still working a white collar job back then. But due to Vince's instability and debt, he vanished, leaving Jake to handle the business, and now Jake has turned it into a restaurant that has a 3-star and a lounge. ![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/samostically/23w2a9dgTDN6MPgHG78dX7tUSrcuYDhubeLqPMhCvQUeiD4Z4mm5wTE6vLurBAhe7yNji.png) [Brothers on the run](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt23055142/mediaviewer/rm4041452290/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
Things get interesting when Vince comes back into the picture after returning from some trouble he ran into over in Reno, and now has to run to his brother Jake for a bailout and any form of assistance. That is why the bond plays a strong factor; although Jake is going through his own problems, he still offers a helping hand to his brother. Making it even more interesting. Jake is portrayed as the one left picking up the pieces when there is trouble, and this time, it is both of them who are in trouble.

The series shows that sometimes, when in trouble, the person who may come to our rescue is the one who still believes in us, a brother. But will this belief and loyalty lead to one's demise when the stakes get hotter? Well, I cannot tell you; you just have to watch the series and find out for yourself. Will the one we love be the reason for our downfall?

Go check it out.
