As a horror movie enthusiast since childhood, I had become increasingly disinterested in the genre in recent years due to a lack of originality in plotlines.
However, my perspective on horror films shifted after discovering Jordan Peele's movies. First, it was "Us," and now, after watching "Get Out," I must say that I was thoroughly impressed.
Peele's unique approach to horror storytelling has reignited my interest in the genre and left me excited to see all his other works and what he will create in the future.
Today, however, I'm going to analyze the review 'Get Out'.
About the Movie
"Get Out" is a brilliant horror film that explores the horrors of racism and the dangers of cultural appropriation.
Jordan Peele Explores topics like racism, exploitation, and cultural appropriation, making the movie much more than just a regular horror movie.
The movie's opening sequences introduce us to Chris, a Black man played by Daniel Kaluuya who is getting ready to meet his white girlfriend's family for the first time.
Chris and his fiancée Rose are seen traveling through a remote location at the beginning of the film. Despite the scene's stunning scenery, there is an unspoken tension that grows with time. Given that he is Black and Rose is White, Chris is worried about Rose's family's reaction to him. The soundtrack serves to amplify this anxiety by using foreboding music to convey a sense of dread.
Once they get to Rose's family's estate, the uncomfortable mood becomes more intense. When Chris meets her parents and brother, they appear friendly and welcoming on the surface, but there is something odd about them.
Even though I couldn't really pinpoint what was wrong but I could sense that something was off.
As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Chris is in grave danger.
The family is not what they appear to be, and they have a sinister plan for him.
Chris met some other blacks on his arrival at the estate but even they too seemed completely off.
The movie examines the historical ways in which white people have used Black bodies for their own ends and the anxiety that Black people feel about losing their identity and independence.
The movie projects horror films in another light. Adding more context and having a unique storyline.
Casts
One of the standout features of "Get Out" is its excellent cast.
Daniel Kaluuya's performance as Chris is superb, and he effectively conveys the character's growing sense of dread and unease.
Allison Williams also gives an excellent performance as Rose, a character who initially seems supportive of Chris, but ultimately reveals herself to be complicit in the family's twisted scheme.
The supporting cast, which includes Catherine Keener, Bradley Whitford, and Lil Rel Howery, also delivers strong performances, adding depth and complexity to the film's characters.
Cinematography
"Get Out" is a visually stunning film that expertly uses color and framing to convey its message.
The film's use of the color white, in particular, is a clever nod to the way that white supremacy operates in society. The bright, sterile interiors of the Armitage family's home are meant to represent the façade of perfection that white people often present to the world, while the dark, sinister basement is a symbol of the hidden, ugly truth that lies beneath.
Every little detail in the film speaks volumes, at first glance you might miss the little pieces but a closer look will leave you amazed at how these tiny details add up to make the cinematography spot on.
My Thoughts
I thoroughly enjoyed the entire movie. My interest in horror movies was on the verge of fading before the movie began, but it has since returned.
I think everything; from the plot, cast, cinematography, and storyline was spot on.
The film expertly weaves together horror, comedy, and social commentary to create a unique and compelling narrative that keeps the audience engaged from beginning to end. The use of symbolism and foreshadowing is also expertly done, adding layers of meaning to the film that reward repeat viewings.
I RATE IT A 9/10 FOR HORRORS
