The staff of the planned Love Live! Sunshine!! film revealed that the project will be an all-new work. The Love! Live! franchise's official Twitter account announced the film on Saturday.

The second season of Love Live! Sunshine!! premiered on October 7, and the 13th and final episode aired on Saturday. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan, and Funimation began streaming an English dub for the series on October 23.

The first Love Live! Sunshine!! anime premiered in July 2016. Funimation, Crunchyroll, and Daisuki streamed the series outside of Japan.

The Love Live! Sunshine!! project was first announced in February 2015. The project's three key phrases are "Reader Participation," "Inspired by μ's," and "Seaside Town Setting." The group's name Aqours was chosen by fans by popular vote.
