[ESP/ENG] Crítica a DIRECCIÓN OPUESTA/ Opposite Direction Review.

Review by @sangoro97 · 1702d · of Opposite Direction

. . Dirección Opuesta is a Venezuelan film directed by Alejandro Bellame, starring Claudia Rojas, Christian González and Erick Palacios, based on the novel Blue Label/ Etiqueta Azul by Eduardo Sánchez Rugeles and released in Venezuelan theaters in December 2021. The story focuses most of the time on Eugenia, a 17-year-old Venezuelan girl who, unsure of what she wants for her life, but fed up with living in the crisis in her country, decides to embark on a journey across Venezuela in search of her grandfather in order to leave the country, accompanied by Luis, a troubled young man with whom she will experience a romance along the way.

The strongest point of Dirección Opuesta is its performances, as the actors embrace their characters in such a way that they give an enviable naturalness and fluidity to the scenes, especially Claudia Rojas and Erick Palacios. At the same time, the film is a portrait of the Venezuelan diaspora from the point of view of its most affected population: the youth, in which the idea of migrating from the country, fleeing from social problems, has been enshrined. As for the technical and directing work, Alejandro Bellame manages to generate very attractive and significant images, in addition to moments where the visual and sound editing are of great support for what is happening.

As the film selected to represent Venezuela in the next edition of the Goya Awards, Dirección Opuesta is a production that offers a journey of growth and internal reflection, without neglecting the need to make a social critique of the present. Undoubtedly a film that Venezuelans, both at home and abroad, must see.
