Today my family and I decided to watch a movie and we decided on "An American Story" starring a great actress whom I admire very much, Whoopi Goldberg and Sissy Spancek. It is set in 1955 and besides being real it shows us the human quality that makes some people feel superior to others and how cruel it is that even today we continue to witness this type of behavior in some countries.

A very moving and sad movie, at the same time as if the color of the skin could define who a person is, in Montgomery there was racism at its maximum expression, so people of color had to use public transportation, buses in which they were forced to stand even if there were seats available. Odessa Cotter was a black woman and worked as a service employee with a white family, in that marriage they had two daughters.

One day Odessa went to the park to take the girls and the police forced her to leave the park, since people of color had no right to be in public spaces, they could not even get into the car of a white person; luckily the boss pulled her influence and forced the policeman to apologize to his employee.

If there is one thing that really outrages me, it is racism, discrimination and injustice. It tugged at my heartstrings. One should not discriminate against another human being, in the eyes of the father we are all equal and our blood is the same color.

As the film progressed, the more I was surprised by how ignorant people were towards another human being whose only sin was to be born with a different skin color.

The buses worked with virtually no riders, as people of color refused to use that transportation. Two days a week her boss, who appreciated her so much, picked her up in her car, she did it secretly because no one could transport it, that is, her boss was exposing herself.

Odessa walked so much to and from work that her feet were bleeding, it had been more than forty days of boycott and protests, however, her boss helped her and not only her, but everyone as much as she could.

In the middle of the film, mention is made of Martin Luther King who was a person of color, activist and American pastor of the twentieth century known for his peaceful struggle against the mistreatment and racism towards people of color in the U.S. His goal was that not only he and his children, but also all those people of color would have the freedom to live in a free nation where they are not judged only by the color of their skin.

One part that personally really struck me about the movie was seeing Odessa's boss, a white woman being so brave. I liked the way she treated her employees and allowed her youngest child to share with her as if they were very close.

I think it must be frustrating that in a family where there is supposed to be harmony and love, the fact that one of the spouses is a racist and selfish person, while the other party is pro-black, ends up affecting the relationship in a negative way.

I cried with this movie, the ending was very beautiful and I can say that even my skin crawled, it was a cry for freedom that not even death will ever be able to silence, an ending full of light and hope in a dark world that we must change.

I definitely admire this woman who, at that time, had the courage to go against her husband, defend her ideals, help her neighbor and those who needed it most.

A piece of advice to mothers, let's educate our children in love and respect for others, regardless of religion or color, I believe that this is the only way to make a better world.
