A lot of people dropped it on the way over.
Others tried to scale it down.
Others labeled it as a dull, old-fashioned series.
Yet when The Big Bang Theory made its debut 12 years ago, seriality wasn't what we knew and definitely NERD wasn't considered what they are now.
The Big Bang Theory was in its own way epochal.
It exalted and cleared the figure of what we could generically call NERDs, people with Peter Pan syndrome who are obsessed and attracted by comics, fantasy stories, Star Wars and to extend the concept beyond film art and not only NERDs are those who don't live by appearances, who shun social conventions, who are attracted by knowledge, who are curious.
Before The Big Bang Theory, these people were essentially considered as losers, inept people, big kids to mock and bully.
Thanks to Sheldon, being NERD has become almost fashionable. Knowing the cosmos has become almost fashionable. Being curious has become almost fashionable, generating a splendid counterpoint.
Sheldon has grown, he has changed, and as Penny will tell him in the very last few minutes:
Maybe change is the only constant in life... A splendid statement that gives rise to the wonderful final discourse in which Sheldon completes his complete evolution. From a person completely devoid of empathy and attention towards others to a person who finally manages to crush his ego in order to put his "other family" at the center and give them a wonderful thank you for the many years spent putting up with him, supporting him, reviving him and inspiring him.
A beautiful ending, if we want simple, if we want easy but perfect that moves and excites and brings to mind the hundreds of lines, moments and scenes that we spectators have shared with Sheldon, Penny, Leonard, Raj, Howard, Bernadette and Amy.
It hasn't always been an exceptional series, it hasn't always been able to renew itself, it hasn't always been able to give interesting evolutions to all its characters but among guest stars, gags and witty jokes it has always captured us as if we were also on that couch, smiling and rejoicing and trying to understand the nature of those characters who have become our friends.
Where did this story come from 12 years ago?

In molti l'hanno mollata strada facendo.
Altri hanno provato a ridimensionarla.
Altri l'hanno etichettata come una serie oramai spenta e fuori moda.
Eppure quando 12 anni fa The Big Bang Theory fece il suo esordio la serialità non era quella che conoscevamo e decisamente i NERD non erano considerati quello che sono considerati ora.
The Big Bang Theory è stata a suo modo epocale.
Ha esaltato e sdoganato la figura di quello che potremmo genericamente definire NERD, ovvero persone con la sindrome di Peter Pan ossessionati e attratti da fumetti, storie fantasy, Star Wars e per estendere il concetto aldilà dell'arte filmica e non solo i NERD sono quelli che non vivono di apparenza, che rifuggono le convenzioni sociali, che sono attratti dalla conoscenza, che sono curiosi.
Prima di The Big Bang Theory queste persone erano essenzialmente considerate delle persone sfigate, degli inetti, dei bamboccioni da deridere e bullizzare.
Grazie a Sheldon essere NERD è diventato quasi di moda. Conoscere il cosmo è diventato quasi di moda. Essere curioso è diventato quasi di moda generando uno splendido contrappasso.
Sheldon è cresciuto, è cambiato, e come gli dirà Penny negli ultimissimi minuti:
Forse il cambiamento è l'unica costante della vita Una splendida affermazione che da il là allo stupendo discorso finale nel quale Sheldon porta a compimento la sua completa evoluzione. Da persona completamente priva di empatia e di attenzione verso gli altri a persona che finalmente riesce a schiacciare il suo ego per mettere al centro la sua "altra famiglia" e regalare loro uno splendido ringraziamento per i tanti anni trascorsi a sopportarlo, sostenerlo, ravvivarlo ed ispirarlo.
Un finale bellissimo, se vogliamo semplice, se vogliamo facile ma perfetto che commuove ed emoziona e ci fa tornare in mente le centinaia di battute, momenti e scene che noi spettatori abbiamo condiviso con Sheldon, Penny, Leonard, Raj, Howard, Bernadette ed Amy.
Non sempre è stata una serie eccezionale, non sempre ha saputo rinnovarsi, non sempre ha saputo regalare evoluzioni interessanti a tutti i suoi personaggi ma tra guest star, gag e argutissime battute ci ha sempre catturati come se fossimo anche noi su quel divano, a sorridere e gioire e provare a comprendere la natura di quei personaggi oramai divenuti nostri amici.
Da dove è nata questa storia partorita 12 anni fa?
