Anteprima - l'idiota preferito da Dio

Review by @serialfiller · 1559d · of The Idiot

https://www.serialfiller.org/post/

Nostalgici di The Good Place?

This is the future link to the post that I am inviting you to read in the coming days at www.serialfiller.org and which is previewed here

As usual, today I am bringing you inside a new Preview of an article that in a few days or weeks you will see In the Mind of a SerialFiller, my blog entirely focused on the world of TV series and of which, for the past few months, I have decided to constantly give you, in advance of what I will publish, most of the posts you will see at www.serialfiller.org.

Do you remember "enterprise from God?"

Nostalgics of The Good Place?

Miracle Workers appealed to you a lot?

Netflix is trying to get into the "almighty" and "miraculous" vein with a new comedy titled God's Favorite Idiot. This is a series of 8 episodes of about twenty minutes, a product that goes away in less than 3 hours and stars Ben Falcone and Melissa McCarthy, here also serving as screenwriter the former and producer the latter. For those who do not know, Falcone and McCarthy are, in life, husband and wife and here they share the set as Clark and "Am." How this on-set cohabitation went you will find out after the image of the 2. I will just say that this post is somewhere between first impressions and a review, having seen only part of the episodes (and that should already give you some clue as to whether or not yours truly likes the show).

The usual 3 questions (almost always rhetorical) that I ask you readers at the beginning of almost all articles reported on In the Mind of a SerialFiller, should have properly directed you to what is the genre in which this comedy fits. Increasingly we are seeing a grotesque and laugh-out-loud turn away from the theme of miracle and relationship with God. Just as happened with The Good Place and Miracle Workers, for example, the Netflix series tries again to bring to the table an ordinary, average man who is almost useless compared to the grand scheme of things but who is exalted and made special by divine intervention. Clark is a lonely and lonely clerk, shy, without many interests and uninteresting to others and unattractive to the female audience. For as long as he can remember, Clark has aspired to share a date night with one of his co-workers, Am, but despite love at first sight, he has never found the courage to come forward. One day, Clark, is struck by a mysterious pillar of light from the sky. From that day on, Clark will emanate, under very specific but yet to be discovered circumstances, an almost divine light that will make him "glowing" in the sight of others. Am will be the first to notice it, to general indifference. No one, in fact, will believe a single word Am says. No one will believe, of course, the version that Clark glows with an ethereal light. All will reconsider when this event comes up again in public. What has been described so far is circumscribed in a comic framework designed to make us laugh and spend the evening in the company of quite absurd characters, victims/protagonists of quite absurd events. And here the series fails. It entertains and allows one to detach the brain but fails even remotely to be anything more (and perhaps doesn't want to be). In a TV world chock-full of top-notch TV series and where literally every day enshrines the debut or return of a potential series to watch and remember. I know that's an easy justification of mine but try even for a moment to think about how many series are offered to you weekly by Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV Plus and Disney Plus just to name the most famous ones. Watching a series means taking hours of your time, perhaps taking time away from other series you would like to watch. That series, today, has to be worth that investment to be "seen." God's Favorite idiot simply does not deserve that time investment. It is easy, forced entertainment that it offers and the context is one that is not new. The Good Place and Miracle Workers, again to name the most famous, for example, did much the same thing but did it better and earlier. This does not detract from the fact that laughter is almost assured and some characters may make you really laugh. Having turned the last page of this serial book, however, you will be left with nothing to remember. If not, then yes, we may cry out for a miracle.

Willingness to continue watching it: 4.5 Willingness to recommend it: 6 Originality: 3 Cast: 6.5 Technical Compartment: 4 Where to Watch: Netflix Release Year: 2022
