2018, unlike 2019, had seen a flood of new original series of great impact and success.
One of the most acclaimed was undoubtedly Barry.
The HBO series written, directed and performed by Bill Hader was a cross between Dexter, Fargo and any comedy you can think of.
Dexter had inherited the personality of the main character from Dexter.
Barry Berkman is in fact a war veteran who would like to be normal but has now, due to a lack of empathy and trauma brought on by the tragic adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan, crossed the threshold that led him basically to be a monster, a professional serial killer. Compared to Dexter, Barry has never had a code of ethics, killing anyone he was told to kill.
From Fargo the series has inherited a taste for grotesque and excessive and often unmotivated violence, shown in the series in every dialogue and in many scenes that showed sudden and often senseless killings.
But Barry subverted the rules dictated by the 2 series previously mentioned by inserting this context in a comic style, made of brilliant and absurd dialogues, unreal and funny characters and brilliant gags.
The union of these 3 souls has given birth to this simply sublime 3-headed monster.
It's no coincidence that Barry has been collecting prizes with the first season and with his second one he was called to confirm himself.
At the end of the season we can say that Barry confirms himself, raises and tears applause, as and more than in the first season.
Bill Hader seems to have wanted to raise the bar, further deepening the various nuances of his character and especially trying to enrich the series of characters even more complex though caricatured.
Sally has often stolen the scene in this second cycle of episodes, taking over everything that the #metoo scandal has brought in dowry in the last 12 months.
Gene Cousineau has become increasingly central, making himself an ideal mask for all the hypocrisies and vulnerabilities in the acting and entertainment universe as a whole.
Fuches has become the crazy splinter that has sown the hilarious gags and seeds for Barry's various explosions and turning points.
Hank has become the ultimate comic relief and the funniest scenes of the year are his.
In between is Barry's evolution, more and more wanted, more and more sought after but for this more and more complicated.
Every time Barry Berkman tried to put his old life behind him, his old life came looking for him, making his emancipation impossible.
So Barry's drama became the drama of anyone who, without being fortunately a former hitman, wanted to seek redemption for a life no longer felt as his own.
In the midst of episodes that have already become iconic and legendary, it's fair to bet, they will lead the series to win prizes again.
Il 2018, a differenza del 2019, aveva visto una marea di nuove serie originali di grande impatto e successo.
Una delle più acclamate è stata senza dubbio Barry.
La serie di HBO scritta, diretta ed interpretata da Bill Hader si proponeva come un incrocio fra Dexter, Fargo e una qualsiasi comedy che possa venirvi in mente.
Di Dexter aveva ereditato la personalità del personaggio principale.
Barry Berkman è infatti un reduce di guerra che vorrebbe essere normale ma che ha oramai, a causa di una mancanza di empatia e di traumi portati dietro dalle avventure tragiche in Iraq e Afghanistan, superato quella soglia che lo ha portato fondamentalmente ad essere un mostro, un serial killer di professione. Rispetto a Dexter, Barry non ha mai avuto un codice etico, uccidendo chiunque gli venisse detto di uccidere.
Di Fargo la serie ha ereditato il gusto del grottesco e della violenza eccessiva e spesso immotivata, mostrata nella serie in ogni dialogo e in tante scene che mostravano uccisioni repentinee e spesso senza senso.
Ma Barry ha sovvertito le regole dettate dalle 2 serie precedentemente menzionate inserendo questo contesto in uno stile comico, fatto di dialoghi brillanti e assurdi, personaggi irreali e divertenti e gag geniali.
L'unione di queste 3 anime ha partorito questo mostro a 3 teste semplicemente sublime.
Non a caso Barry ha fatto incetta di premi con la prima stagione e con la sua seconda era chiamato a confermarsi.
A stagione ultimata possiamo dire che Barry si conferma, rilancia e strappa applausi, come e più che nella prima stagione.
Bill Hader sembra aver voluto alzare l'asticella, approfondendo ulteriormente le varie sfumature del suo personaggio e soprattutto provando ad arricchire la serie di personaggi ancora più complessi seppur caricaturali.
Sally spesso ha rubato la scena in questo secondo ciclo di episodi, facendosi carico di tutto quello che lo scandalo #metoo ha portando in dote negli ultimi 12 mesi.
Gene Cousineau è divenuto sempre più centrale, facendosi maschera ideale per tutte le ipocrisie e le vulnerabilità presenti nell'universo attoriale e dell'entertainment nel suo complesso.
Fuches è divenuto la scheggia impazzita che ha seminato qua e la gag esilaranti e i semi per le varie esplosioni e turning point di Barry.
Hank è divenuto il comic relief per antonomasia e sono sue le più divertenti scene dell'anno.
Nel mezzo l'evoluzione di Barry, sempre più voluta, sempre più cercata ma per questo sempre più complicata.
Ogni qualvolta Barry Berkman ha cercato di mettersi alle spalle la sua vecchia vita, la sua vecchia vita è venuta a cercarlo, rendendo impossibile la sua emancipazione.
Il dramma di Barry è divenuto cosi il dramma di chiunque, senza essere fortunatamente un ex sicario, volesse cercare un riscatto ad una vita non più sentita come propria.
Nel mezzo episodi gia divenuti iconici e leggendari che c'è da scommetterci, porteranno la serie a fare nuovamente incetta di premi.
