Every year is open hunt for what could be the TV series, the new attention-grabbing TV series. It is often easy to draw up a short list of the 10/15 most awaited programs. We try to imagine the final result of TV products according to the production company involved, actors, actresses, directors, scriptwriters, broadcaster, genre and so on. Hardly wrong, hardly that short list presents great disappointment. It's quite common, however, that at the end of the year there are several titles on the year-end charts that were not on those short lists. Just think in recent years to unexpected phenomena such as Killing Eve and Chernobyl to say 2 at random. This year there seems to be even more uncertainty and for the moment at the top of the charts of liking compared to the new most popular TV series there seems to be just one title that is not expected: Devs. And yet this TV series was born from the union between a director and screenwriter in great rise as Alex Garland and a broadcaster like FX able to churn out legendary titles like Sons of Anarchy, Legion, Fargo and American Crime Story to name 4. Devs wasn't on the radar, oddly enough it was little publicized and little talked about. It came to the screens in silence, with no expectations. At first sight, at the end of the pilot's vision, however, it's easy to guess that we're not facing a normal series, a series that can go unnoticed. The narrative plot that involves indefinable, falsely stereotypical characters, a basic semi-scientific plot and a series of mysteries to discover, makes Devs perfect for lovers of the unknown and technology. Amaya is a technology company that has beaten the competition in quantum computing. However, it hides a section, called Devs, of which no one knows the extraction, the continuous and incessant work that is done inside. Around Devs there is therefore something incredible, mysterious, futuristic. Nick Offerman plays the tormented and visionary owner of Amaya and the pilot's most successful dialogues are his. Alex Garland thus confirms himself as an excellent director who is always able to innovate and surprise. It remains to be seen whether the series will hold up in the long run. If so, we'll find ourselves in front of a TV series that will surely be top 10 at the end of the year.
Ogni anno è caccia aperta a quale potrebbe essere la serie tv, la nuova serie tv capace di catalizzare l'attenzione. Spesso è facile stilare una short list dei 10/15 programmi più attesi. Si cerca di immaginare il risultato finale di prodotti televisivi in base alla casa di produzione coinvolta, attori, attrici, registi, sceneggiatori, emittente, genere e cosi via. Difficilmente si sbaglia, difficilmente quella short list presenta grosse delusione. E' abbastanza frequente però che a fine anno ci siano vari titoli nelle classifiche di fine anno che non erano in quelle short list. Basti pensare negli ultimi anni a fenomeni inattesi come Killing Eve e Chernobyl per dirne 2 a caso. Quest'anno sembra esserci ancora più incertezza e per il momento in testa alle classifiche di gradimento rispetto alle nuove serie tv più apprezzate sembra esserci proprio un titolo poco atteso: Devs. Eppure questa serie tv nasce dal connubbio fra un regista e sceneggiatore in grande ascesa come Alex Garland ed un emittente come FX capace di sfornare titoli leggendari come Sons of Anarchy, Legion, Fargo ed American Crime Story per dirne 4. Devs non era nei radar, stranamente è stata poco pubblicizzata e poco chiacchierata. E' arrivata sugli schermi in silenzio, senza aspettative. Ad una prima visione, alla fine della visione del pilot è però facile intuire che non ci troviamo di fronte ad una serie normale, di fronte ad una serie che possa passare inosservata. L'intreccio narrativo che coinvolge personaggi indefinibili, falsamente stereotipati e stereotipabili, una trama semi-fantascientifica di base ed una serie di misteri da scoprire, rende Devs perfetta per gli amanti dell'ignoto e della tecnologia. Amaya è una società tecnologica che ha sbaragliato la concorrenza nel settore del computing quantico. Tuttavia nasconde una sezione, chiamata Devs, di cui nessuno conosce l'estrazione, i lavori continui ed incessanti che vengono svolti all'interno. Attorno a Devs si nasconde dunque qualcosa di incredibile, misterioso, futuristico. Nick Offerman interpreta il tormentato e visionario proprietario di Amaya e sono suoi i dialoghi più riusciti del pilot. Alex Garland si conferma dunque un eccellente regista capace sempre di innovare e sorprendere. Resta da vedere se sulla lunga distanza la serie reggerà. Se cosi fosse ci troveremo di fronte ad una serie tv da sicura top 10 a fine anno.
