But 2 times is a lot or a few when you are faced with one of the most important series ever?
Well, there you go. Today I want to focus on the finale and especially on the final minutes, maybe even the final seconds. Obviously spoilers will follow.
In the final episode everything goes as it should, with the usual elegance and suspense typical of Hollywood. Saul is betrayed but not killed. America is humiliated but saved. Carrie betrays, saves and disappears but doesn't die, doesn't really betray, doesn't really disappear.
And here we come to the final class shot, to that circle that closes perfectly, leaving even a small door open for any future sequels or movies or miniseries about Carrie Mathison. It's an open ending that works beautifully. It's a perfect serial ending to the story we've loved all these years. Carrie Mathison becomes the spy, with a capital "L. The guilt over the killing of the very important asset that Saul recruited 30 years earlier forces her to think of a personal ransom and more. So Carrie manages to conclude her journey, which in reality is not really concluded, taking the final choice, the bravest one, the most "in character" if we think about the evolution of the character. Carrie sacrifices herself for her country, and in general for the values she believes in, and above all she sacrifices herself for her mentor, for Saul. Carrie Mathison replaces the hitherto most valuable asset for American intelligence, for Saul, and begins a life in Moscow with Yevgeny Gromov. The final pathos is just the icing on the cake and that alternating shot between Saul, pardon Rabinow, and Carrie, with that smile that gradually gets louder and louder on the faces of the two is simply perfect. Homeland gave a lot, he received less than he deserved, it was understood little by little from the third season on. Nicholas Brody's lovers have criticized and abandoned a TV series that had always been Carrie Mathison's and about Carrie Mathison, with Saul excellent shoulder. The sadness, mixed with pride, in seeing it end is a lot but this perfect ending leaves no regrets. All that's left is a giant thank you.

Ma 2 volte son tante o poche quando si è di fronte ad una delle serie più importanti di sempre?
Ecco, insomma, avete capito. Oggi voglio soffermarmi sul finale e soprattutto sui minuti finali, forse addirittura i secondi finali. Ovviamente seguiranno spoiler.
Nell'episodio finale tutto va come deve andare, con la solita eleganza e suspence tipiche di Hollywood. Saul viene tradito ma non ucciso. L'America viene umiliata ma salvata. Carrie tradisce, salva e scompare ma non muore, non tradisce davvero, non scompare davvero.
E qui veniamo al colpo di classe finale, a quel cerchio che si chiude perfettamente, lasciando anche una piccola porta aperta per eventuali futuri sequel o film o miniserie su Carrie Mathison. E' un finale aperto ma che funziona stupendamente. E' un finale di serie perfetto per la storia che per tutti questi anni abbiamo amato. Carrie Mathison diventa LA spia, con la L maiuscola. Il senso di colpa per l'uccisione dell'importantissima risorsa che Saul aveva reclutato 30 anni prima, la costringe a pensare ad un riscatto personale e non solo. Ecco che quindi Carrie riesce a concludere il suo percorso, che in realtà non è davvero concluso, prendendo la scelta definitiva, quella più coraggiosa, quella più "in character" se pensiamo all'evoluzione del personaggio. Carrie si immola per il suo paese, ed in generale per i valori in cui crede, e soprattutto si immola per il suo mentore, per Saul. Carrie Mathison si sostituisce all'asset fino ad allora più prezioso per l'intelligence americana, per Saul, ed inizia una vita a Mosca con Yevgeny Gromov. Il pathos finale è solo la ciliegina sulla torta e quell'inquadratura alternata fra Saul, pardon Rabinow, e Carrie, con quel sorriso che si fa a poco a poco più fragoroso sul volto dei 2 è semplicemente perfetto. Homeland ha dato tanto, ha ricevuto meno di quel che meritasse, è stata capita poco dalla terza stagione in poi. Gli amanti di Nicholas Brody hanno criticato e abbandonato una serie tv che era sempre stata di Carrie Mathison e su Carrie Mathison, con Saul spalla eccelsa. La tristezza, mista ad orgoglio, nel vederla concludere è tanta ma questo finale perfetto non lascia rimpianti. Resta solo un grazie, gigantesco.
