Very sadly we have to admit that what rock was able to convey between the '60s and the early '90s today is no longer able to convey it.
Rock has run aground. Rock is dead.
The cause or consequence of this anomaly was the birth of rap.
In Italy 9 out of 10 artists in the top 10 2018 are rap artists. In the world we are more or less on the same level.
Whether we like it or not today the protest, the anger, the reading of the contemporary is entrusted to a musical genre that will horrify the purists.
And so the investigation of how this musical genre was born and how over the years it has been able to steal the scene and read reality better than any other musical wave takes on new light.
In this key is inserted one of the most successful films of recent years: Straight Outta Compton.
The film takes us back to the late '80s / early '90s when rappers were still a niche but they had already managed to enter the charts and make people talk about themselves in fairly isolated cases.
That little hotbed was about to burst into a fire that would invade all of the United States first and then the whole world.
The match from which all hell was going to break out is not easily detectable but if we had to bet on a name and a city we could point the finger at the N.W.A. in Los Angeles precisely in Compton.
The N.W.A. (Nigga With Attitude) are a rap band that saw souls brought together in a single team that with the first album entitled Straight Outta Compton exploded the enthusiasm and protest of millions of Americans, becoming a symbol especially for the African American community, harassed in those years by unannounced and free attacks by the police.
Under that acronym hid the musical talent of Dr. Dre, the pure voice of Eazy-E and the dirty voice of Ice Cube.
In a different way the 3 would have become totems in the contemporary music scene.
The almost violent but often elegant rhythm of their music combined with incendiary words like "Fuck The Police" crossed America tearing it apart and awakening it as only rock would have done in the past.
Fame, envy and misunderstandings would have soon made scorched earth but the echo of those days has managed to arrive until today, about 30 years later with a remarkable film and an important legacy left to all lovers of rap music.
Molto tristemente bisogna ammettere che quello che il rock riusciva a veicolare tra gli anni '60 e i primi anni '90 oggi non riesce più a trasmetterlo.
Il rock si è arenato. Il rock è morto.
Causa o conseguenza di questa anomalia è stata la nascita del rap.

Che piaccia o meno oggi la protesta, la rabbia, la lettura della contemporaneità è affidata ad un genere musicale che farà inorridire i puristi.
Ed ecco che dunque assume nuova luce l'indagine sul come sia nato questo genere musicale e come negli anni abbia saputo rubare la scena e leggere la realtà meglio di qualunque altra ondata musicale.
In questa chiave si inserisce uno dei film più di successo degli ultimi anni: Straight Outta Compton.
Il film ci riporta indietro alla fine degli anni '80/ primi anni '90 quando i rapper erano ancora una nicchia ma erano già riusciti ad entrare in classifica e far parlare di se seppur in casi abbastanza isolati.
Quel piccolo focolaio stava per divampare in un incendio che avrebbe invaso tutti gli Stati Uniti prima e il mondo intero poi.
Il fiammifero da cui sarebbe scoppiato l'inferno non è facilmente individuabile ma se dovessimo puntare su un nome e su una città potremmo puntare il dito sugli N.W.A. in quel di Los Angeles precisamente a Compton.
Gli N.W.A. (Nigga With Attitude) sono un gruppo rap che vide convogliare anime fin li sole e isolate in un unico team che con il primo album dal titolo Straight Outta Compton fece esplodere l'entusiasmo e la protesta di milioni di americani divenendo un simbolo soprattutto per la comunità afroamericana, vessata in quegli anni dagli attacchi inopinati e gratuiti delle forze dell'ordine.
Sotto quella sigla si celava il talento musicale di Dr. Dre, la voce pura di Eazy-E e quella sporca di Ice Cube.
In maniera diversa i 3 sarebbero divenuti dei totem nel panorama musicale contemporaneo.
Il ritmo quasi violento ma spesso elegante delle loro musiche unito a parole incendiarie come "Fuck The Police" attraversarono l'America dilaniandola e risvegliandola come un tempo solo il rock avrebbe saputo fare.
La fama, le invidie e le incomprensioni avrebbero ben presto fatto terra bruciata ma l'eco di quei giorni è riuscito ad arrivare fino ad oggi, circa 30 anni dopo con un film degno di nota e un'eredità importante lasciata a tutti gli amanti della musica rap.
