Damien Chazelle is one of the best directors of recent years. Perhaps the best of his generation. Most likely the one with the most promising future. He is a young, very young and yet already very famous director with many awards to his credit. Perhaps he has also been underestimated on many occasions. To his credit 3 films, one different from the other, one better than the other. Whiplash was a unique jewel, original, mad in its rhythm, in its music. LaLaLand is good to see one of the best films from 2000 onwards, as well as an atypical musical that has been able to re-launch a now dead genre. First Man is an intimate masterpiece by too many mistaken for sci-fi films, which tells the story of Armstrong and the moon landing in a very deep and dramatic way. THE EDDY
A very long pilot, about 70 minutes long, takes us to France, to Paris, to the club (THE EDDY) run by Eddy Elliot. Just as in Whiplash music is at the centre of everything, jazz is the protagonist. The stories told will all revolve around the club. The episode was directed by Chazelle himself, whose direction can be seen above all with the initial piano sequence and the enthusiastic, intimate love that each shot emanates. Unfortunately, however, only these and a few others are the pilot's positive notes. The rhythm, which in Whiplash was maddening, is very, very slow here. The minute rate, so high, is excessive. You could have opted for a 40/50 minute episode and achieved better results. In addition to this, it seems that you have focused too much on the soul to give to the series and less on the plot, the adaptation to a medium like TV. It turns out to be a long episode, a 140 minute movie if you think about the first 2 episodes. The result is good, maybe excellent but not as excellent as Chazelle's fame would impose. Half a disappointment, in short, but it's only the result of watching a first episode, nothing prejudices that there could be much better on the horizon until the end of the first season.
Damien Chazelle è uno dei migliori registi degli ultimi anni. Forse il migliore della sua generazione. Molto probabilmente quello con il futuro più promettente. E' un regista giovane, giovanissimo eppure già famosissimo e con all'attivo numerosi premi. E' forse stato anche sottovalutato in molte occasioni. All'attivo 3 film, uno diverso dall'altro, uno migliore dell'altro. Whiplash è stato un gioiello unico, originale, forsennato nel suo ritmo, nella sua musica. LaLaLand è a buon vedere uno dei migliori film dal 2000 in avanti, nonchè un musical atipico che ha saputo rilanciare un genere oramai morto. First Man un capolavoro intimista da troppi scambiati per film di genere sci-fi, che racconta Armstrong e l'allunaggio in una maniera molto profonda e drammatica. Ecco perchè l'approdo di Damien Chazelle in tv, su Netflix era attesisssimo. Arrivato maggio è arrivato

Le vicende narrate si articoleranno tutte intorno al club. L'episodio è stato diretto da Chazelle stesso la cui regia si nota soprattutto con il piano sequenza iniziale e con l'amore entusiasta, intimo che ogni inquadratura emana. Purtroppo, però sono solo queste e poche altre le note positive del pilot. Il ritmo, che in Whiplash era forsennato, qui è molto molto lento. Il minutaggio cosi elevato risulta essere eccessivo. Si sarebbe potuto optare per un episodio da 40/50 minuti e raggiungere risultati migliori. Oltre a questo sembra che si sia puntato troppo sull'anima da dare alla serie e meno alla trama, all'adattamento ad un medium come la tv. Risulta essere dunque un lungo episodio, un film di 140 minuti se pensiao ai primi 2 episodi. Il risultato è buono, forse ottimo ma non eccellente come la fama di Chazelle imporrebbe. Una mezza delusione insomma che è però frutto solo della visione di un primo episodio, nulla pregiudica che ci possa essere molto di meglio all'orizzonte fino alla fine della prima stagione.
