This is Us: the ordinary is extraordinary (ENG - ITA)

Come di consueto con l'arrivo di Settembre approda sugli schermi una nuova stagione di This Is US, giunta alla sua quarta stagione. Abbiamo ancora nella memoria lo strabiliante pilot, che aveva provato a depistare tutti per poi metterci di fronte ad una realtà inaspettata. L'abilità di Fogelman di giocare con lo spazio e il tempo e di muoversi su più livelli narrativi e temporali è stata da sempre il punto di forza della serie. Con la premierè della quarta stagione Folgeman ci riprova e ci riesce nuovamente. Nuovi personaggi vengono introdotti in questo primo episodio, nuove storie, apparentemente sfilacciate dal resto ma che al termine dei 40 minuti confluiscono in quel mega calderone meraviglioso che This Is Us è diventato. Solitamente quando un autore ricicla il proprio stile, magari rinnovandolo leggermente, non riscontro il favore di pubblico e critica. Qui accade esattamente il contrario. Abbiamo capito benissimo quale sia la cifra stilistica della serie e il perpretrarsi delle solite logiche e i soliti espedienti non ci annoia, anzi ci tiene sempre più incollati davanti allo schermo. Non annoia perchè riesce sempre ad introdurre nuovi temi e nuove storie senza però perdere il tocco magico. Storie drammatiche che danno speranza oppure storie frivole ma che riescono a delineare piccoli drammi quotidiani, riuscendo sempre a proporci il buono che è dentro i personaggi e dunque di riflesso dentro di noi.

And to think that someone had begun to feel a sense of tiredness in the series that actually didn't seem to have manifested itself. We are talking about a series that at the end of this year will be close to the 100 episodes goal but which does not seem at all tired and indeed seems to still have much to say. How can a series that is literally able to excite and sometimes move the viewer to every single episode be criticized? It should also be noted that the paths of the individual characters are incredible. Just think of Kevin who has gone from being the least interesting of the "Big Three" to being in fact the absolute protagonist of the series or at least the one around whom the most interesting events come together and at the same time start. And what about the abundance of secondary characters who have a dignity and a greater depth than many alleged protagonists of thousands of other series. Just think of Miguel, Toby and Beth until you get to the new additions of little Jack and Cass this season. There is no world that This is Us ends up being forgettable. The Fogelman series is a small miracle because it manages to emerge on the generalist TV without having to resort to blood, violence, nudity, epic but gathering many microframments of the daily life of all of us and transferring them to lives, surely edulcated and excessively full of emotions, of series characters. This is Us returns with a bang, and after only 3 episodes it has already put so much on the flesh without giving up the slightest telling stories and existences of its main or secondary protagonists.
